PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Auburn University at Montgomery women's tennis team (5-11; GSC: 2-4) dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 2 West Florida (15-4; GSC: 5-1) in Gulf South Conference play on the road against the Argonauts on Wednesday afternoon at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
Doubles
In doubles play, West Florida secured the opening point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. At the No. 2 court, Mercedes Garcia Cid and Allison Blanco dropped a 6-2 decision Guadalupe Martinez and Aline Midori Da Silva.
Ana Clara Campigotto and Sofia Neri fell 6-2 to Kylie Kochis and Sophie Smith at doubles court No. 3.
At the top position, the No. 24-ranked pairing of Melissa Yakup Pour and Nagisa Yonezawa went toe-to-toe with West Florida's No. 3-ranked doubles team of Carlota Verdu and Sandra Recuenco Tarin. The Warhawks held a narrow 5-4 edge before the match was left unfinished. The Argos headed into singles play with a 1-0 lead over the Warhawks.
Singles
In singles play, West Florida carried its momentum into the lineup. At the top position, No. 9 Melissa Yakup Pour battled No. 7 Carlota Verdu. Verdu secured a 6-4, 7-5 win to give the Argonauts an early advantage, extending their lead to 2-0.
At No. 6, Ana Clara Campigotto was defeated by Kylie Kochis in a 7-5, 6-1 match. UWF followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Nagisa Yonezawa at No. 5 and clenching the match at 4-0.
Guadalupe Martinez outlasted Allison Blanco in a three-set battle, 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 on court No. 4. On singles court No. 2, Mercedes Garcia Cid faced No. 33 Sandra Recuenco Tarin and dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision as West Florida extended its lead.
The meet concluded at No. 3, where No. 56 Aline Midori Da Silva held off Sofia Neri 6-0, 7-6 (7-5) in a tightly contested second set.
