MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks baseball team (11-34, GSC: 6-24) closed out its 2026 home schedule with a 14-11 loss to the Delta State Statesmen (26-16, GSC: 19-11) on Saturday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One; AUM 5; DSU 11
Delta State struck early, scoring five runs in the top of the first behind a three-run home run, a sacrifice fly, and a run-scoring double to jump out to a 5-0 lead.
AUM answered in the bottom half with an RBI double from shortstop
Tucker Burns, driving in
Kyle Hipp, who singled earlier in the inning, to cut the deficit to 5-1.
In the second, AUM added another run when
Will Passeau singled to second and
Brice Ainsworth was hit by a pitch. Passeau came around to score on a ground ball from
Ryan Revera to take the score to 5-2.
Delta State responded in the third with an RBI groundout and added another run in the fourth making it 6-2.
Chance Sweeney singled then stole second, on a throwing error while Ainsworth scored, adding a run to make it 6-3.
AUM plated another run off a single to left field, making it 6-4 in the bottom of the sixth. A solo home run in the eighth pushed Delta State's lead to 8-4.
In the final inning of the game, the Statesmen plated two more runs off one hit, the score at 11-4. AUM was able to bring one more run across the plate behind a Revera and
Landon Baeder single. Kyle
Hipp delivered his fifth hit of the game, scoring
Christopher McNeill, taking the final score of game one of the double header to 11-5.
Game One Notables
Kyle Hipp had a huge day at the plate, going 5-for-5 with a double, 1 RBI, and a run scored.
Will Passeau finished 3-for-4 with a double and 2 runs scored.
Ryan Revera drove in 2 runs while going 2-for-4, including a pair of RBI singles.
Tucker Burns went 1-for-5 with a double and an RBI, driving in AUM's first run of the game.
Chance Sweeney went 1-for-3 at the plate with a stolen base.
Christopher McNeill scored a run and worked two walks.
The AUM pitching staff combined for four strikeouts in the game.
Game Two; AUM 11; DSU 14
Using momentum from the previous game, Delta State opened the series finale with a 10-run first inning, taking an early advantage.
The Warhawks were able to get on the board in the bottom of the frame, which began with a leadoff single from
Landon Baeder. With two outs and Baeder on first,
Will Passeau roped an RBI double to right center field to plate Baeder and give the Warhawks its first run of the game. As the next batter,
Liam Gilbert knocked an RBI base hit to shallow left center field, allowing Passeau to score and cut the deficit to 10-2.
The Statesmen added four runs over the next three innings, extending its lead to 14-2.
With two runners on base in the bottom of the fifth inning, Passeau stepped up to the plate a launched a three-run bomb to the scoreboard in right field to bring AUM's total to five runs.
The sixth inning featured a dominant run from the Warhawks' offense, scoring six runs on three hits and a Delta State miscue. The inning began with
Ryan Revera drawing a walk before
John Kiebler smoked a double to left center field. With two runners in scoring position a Statesmen error allowed Baeder to reach first base while both runners advanced to score Rivera. Hipp struck out, but a passed ball allowed him to race to first base while Kiebler completed his trip around the diamond. Not long after,
Brice Ainsworth grounded out to the third baseman, but not without driving Passeau home to complete the six-run inning.
Despite AUM's efforts, the Statesmen went on to secure a 14-11 win.
Game Two Notables
Will Passeau led the Warhawk's offense with two hits on three at bats with while scoring three times himself and driving in four runs. He also added a walk.
Tucker Burns went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
Liam Gilbert also went 2-for-3 at the plate while adding a run and an RBI.
AUM's offense combined for four doubles in game two.
Up Next
The Warhawks will play their final series of the regular season in Montevallo, Alabama against the Montevallo Falcons on Friday, April 24, with first pitch set for 5 pm.
