TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The No. 6 Auburn University at Montgomery women's tennis team (6-12; GSC: 3-5) saw its 2026 season come to a close on Thursday with a 4-0 loss to No. 3 West Alabama (19-4; GSC: 5-2) in the Gulf South Conference Championship quarterfinals at the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center.
Doubles
At No. 2 doubles, Mercedes Garcia Cid and Sofia Neri fell 6-1 to Valentina Mutilba and Jenaila Prulla. The No. 22-ranked duo of Melissa Yakup Pour and Nagisa Yonezawa faced a tough challenge at the top spot, dropping a 6-1 decision to the No. 2-ranked pair of Alexa Milliam and Shaira Rivera.
West Alabama claimed the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 1 positions to make the score 1-0.
The No. 3 doubles match featuring Valeria Garcia Chavez and Ana Clara Campigotto went unfinished.
Singles
At the No. 6 singles, Valeria Garcia Chavez battled against No. 58 Nanoka Kazama, falling 6-2, 6-1, before Ana Clara Campigotto dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to No. 52 Jenaila Prulla at the No. 5 position.
At No. 3 singles, Mercedes Garcia Cid faced No. 67 Valentina Mutilba and fell 6-3, 6-1 to clinch the match for the Tigers.
No. 13 Melissa Yakup Pour, a First Team All-GSC selection, took the opening set 7-5 against No. 7 Shaira Rivera at the No. 1 position before the match went unfinished.
Sofia Neri pushed No. 19 Alexa Milliam to a tight first set at No. 2 singles, while Nagisa Yonezawa held a one-set lead at No. 4 singles before play was stopped.
