Warhawks Edged 2-1 by Spring Hill in Road Contest

MOBILE, Ala. - The Auburn University at Montgomery women's soccer team (2-2-3; GSC: 0-2-0) took an early second-half lead on Bella Ingstrom's first goal of the season but ultimately fell 2-1 to Spring Hill College (3-2-1; GSC: 2-0-0) Wednesday evening at Library Field in a Gulf South Conference matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED  

First Half 
Chloe Wallace tested Spring Hill goalkeeper Ava Bell in the 10th minute, sending a low shot toward the right side that Bell saved. AUM followed with a corner kick less than a minute later, but the Warhawks were unable to find the breakthrough. 

Spring Hill responded with its first chances midway through the half, as two Badgers put shots on target in the 15th and 23rd minutes, respectively. Leslie Azouer stopped both attempts to keep the match scoreless.  

The Warhawks continued to generate opportunities as the half progressed, with Eva Hendriks missing just right in the 25th minute before Jenna Buice and Wallace added shots in the 30th and 33rd minutes. AUM earned another corner in the 44th minute before Natahley Sabens recorded a final shot that went wide. Neither side found the net, sending the match into halftime tied 0-0. 

Second Half 
AUM came out of the halftime break with an immediate push, and Bella Ingstrom put the Warhawks in front in the 52nd minute with a low shot to the center of the net for her first goal of the season. The goal came just 17 seconds after Chloe Wallace had a shot saved by Bell.  

The Badgers responded with a pair of chances of their own, but Azouer turned aside Madison Hitzman's second shot of the half in the 51st minute. Beatrice Sales tested Spring Hill's goalkeeper with a low shot in the 58th minute, but the Badgers' goalkeeper made the save. 

Spring Hill eventually found the equalizer in the 60th minute, when Laura Lillie Sparks finished a low shot to the left side off an assist from Sofia Jimenez Garcia. AUM responded with an opportunity from Eva Hendriks in the 69th minute, but her shot sailed high.  

The match remained tied into the final 10 minutes before Spring Hill took its first lead of the night in the 84th minute, the Badgers scored on a low shot to the left side. AUM pushed forward late, earning a corner and a free kick before Wallace forced another save from Bell in the 88th minute, but the Warhawks could not find a second equalizer as Spring Hill held on for the 2-1 victory. 

Notables 

  • Bella Ingstrom scored her first goal of the season in the 52nd minute, marking her third consecutive start for the Warhawks.
  • Leslie Azouer recorded five saves in goal, bringing her total to 35 saves through seven matches this season. 
  • AUM finished with 10 shots and five shots on goal, including six corner kicks.
  • The Warhawks scored just 6:28 into the second half to take its first lead of the match.
