Auburn University at Montgomery Athletics

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks volleyball team (2-10, GSC: 0-2) dropped a five-set battle to the Lee Flames (6-3, GSC: 2-0), 3-2 (26-28, 25-23, 25-12, 21-25, 15-8) on Saturday afternoon from the AUM Athletics Complex.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
Lee jumped out to a 6-2 advantage before AUM began to chip away at the deficit. The Flames maintained a 16-7 lead midway through the set, but the Warhawks responded with a strong stretch to pull within 17-11. AUM continued to battle and eventually tied the set at 20-20 following a kill from Chelsea Daffin. The teams traded points from there, with neither side able to create separation. AUM fought off set point and took a 27-26 lead before a kill from Amiliaa DeLeon gave the Warhawks a 28-26 victory and a 1-0 match lead.
 
SET TWO
AUM carried its momentum into the second set, taking an early 10-7 lead before Lee worked its way back into the set. The Warhawks stayed in the game throughout the middle portion, with kills from Mya Lacey, Jaslyn Montgomery and Daffin helping AUM cut it back to 22-20. Lee answered to take a 24-21 lead, but AUM again responded, eventually moving the score to 24-23. The Flames scored the final point, however, to claim the set 25-23 and even the match at 1-1.
 
SET THREE
Lee controlled the third set from the jump, opening a 10-5 lead before extending the advantage to 15-6. The Flames then used a prolonged scoring run to build a 21-10 lead. Lee closed out the frame 25-12 to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
 
SET FOUR
The Warhawks responded immediately in the fourth set, jumping out to a 7-1 advantage behind kills from Lacey and Montgomery and a service ace from Kinsley Kennedy. Lee cut the deficit to 9-5, but AUM continued to answer, pushing its lead to 15-9. The Flames later pulled within 20-17, but the Warhawks regained control with kills from Daffin and Montgomery, taking a 23-17 advantage. Not long after, Lee scored three straight points to make it 24-21, but Daffin delivered the match-clinching kill as AUM won the set 25-21 and forced a decisive fifth set.
 
SET FIVE
Lee took control early in the final set, building a 5-1 lead before AUM answered with a kill from Montgomery. The Flames extended their advantage to 9-3, but the Warhawks continued to fight, adding kills from Daffin and Addison Vinson to pull within 10-5. Lee maintained its cushion through the closing points and finished off the match with a 15-8 victory.
 
NOTABLES

• Jamya Powell led the Warhawks with 16 kills while hitting .467.
• Chelsea Daffin added 15 kills and four blocks. 
• Mya Lacey finished with 12 kills, four service aces and eight digs
• Jaslyn Montgomery recorded nine kills and three blocks.
• Addison Vinson directed the AUM offense with 43 assists and added 15 digs.
• Amiliaa DeLeon led the defensive effort with 19 digs.
• AUM finished with 59 digs and eight service aces as a team.
