MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks women's soccer team (3-5-2, GSC: 1-4-0) battled the UAH Chargers (4-5-0, GSC: 2-3-0) at the AUM Soccer Stadium on Saturday afternoon, ultimately falling 1-0 in a tightly contested conference matchup.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
The Warhawks created several early chances, with freshmen Eva Hendriks and Rachel Wain each recording shots in the opening nine minutes. The Chargers also tested AUM goalkeeper Leslie Azouer early, but she came up with saves on Kaitlyn Lewis, Carley White and Prescott Hull to keep the Chargers off the scoreboard in the opening fifteen minutes.
AUM continued to create opportunities through two shots from Bella Ingstrom, Wain, and Jenna Buice, while UAH maintained pressure. Azouer remained strong in goal late in the half, making two more saves in the final seven minutes to bring her first-half total to six.
Neither team could find the breakthrough as the match remained scoreless at halftime.
Second Half
UAH continued to pressure the Warhawks coming out of halftime, with Azouer making another save in the 52nd minute. AUM began to create more opportunities of its own, as Gabby Benavidez and Beatrice Sales each recorded shots in the 59th and 61st minutes.
Azouer remained steady in goal, making another save in the 72nd minute to keep the match equal. UAH broke through in the 78th minute when Kaitlyn Lewis found the back of the net to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead.
The Warhawks pushed for an equalizer in the closing minutes, with Hendriks forcing a save from CeCe Szopa in the 85th minute and Buice recording her second shot of the evening. Azouer made one final save in the 89th minute, but AUM could not find the equalizer as UAH held on for the 1-0 victory.
