BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference announced its weekly men's soccer awards Tuesday, with Auburn University at Montgomery defender
Luke Butcher earning GSC Player of the Week honors and goalkeeper
Jakob Buhrkuhl earning his second consecutive, and third of the season, GSC Goalkeeper of the Week honor, following a standout week for the Warhawks.
LAST WEEK
Butcher led the Warhawks to a 2-0 week against GSC opponents while playing all 90 minutes in both matches. He played a key role in AUM's 2-1 comeback victory over Montevallo, scoring the equalizer in the 56th minute. He also helped anchor the Warhawk backline, which held the Falcons scoreless over the final 77 minutes of play.
Butcher then helped guide the Warhawks to a 1-0 victory over No. 15 UAH on Saturday. Off a corner kick, his header assisted
Alan De Paula's bicycle-kick goal to down the nationally ranked Chargers. Defensively, Butcher was part of a Warhawk backline that recorded a clean sheet against UAH.
In goal, Buhrkuhl continued his strong run in goal last week, helping the Warhawks to a pair of Gulf South Conference victories over Montevallo and No. 15 UAH. He played all 180 minutes while making three saves in AUM's 2-1 win over the Falcons before adding five saves to earn a clean sheet in the Warhawks' 1-0 victory over the Chargers. This was UAH's first match of the season where they didn't score a goal. Buhrkuhl's eight saves helped AUM remain unbeaten in conference play at 5-0.
