Jed Carter joined the baseball coaching staff as a volunteer assistant in 2018, after spending two seasons in the Chicago Cubs Organization.
Carter, the highest draft pick for AUM baseball since 2009, was taken in the 15th round (pick 464) by the Chicago Cubs in the 2016 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft. The Tallassee, Ala. native complied a 3-1 professional record and a 2.87 ERA over two seasons, reaching as high as the Cubs’ Class-A Short Season affiliate in Eugene, Ore.
Carter earned NAIA All-America Honorable Mention Honors in his lone season with AUM 2016, while helping lead the Orange and Black to their fourth ever appearance in the Avista-NAIA Baseball World Series.
Carter posted a 2-1 record with a 1.85 earned run average and a NAIA-best 16 saves. He allowed opponents to hit just .176 on the year, striking out 53 hitters in 34 innings. Carter opened his career with 22 consecutive scoreless innings and allowed runs in just three outings. Carter tallied a strikeout in 24-of-29 appearances.
Carter's 16 saves marks the second-best season total in school history, while his saves total is currently the second most for a career at AUM.
Prior to joining the Warhawks, the Tallassee, Ala., native played two seasons at Lurleen B. Wallace Community College, where he posted a 9-1 record during his career. He helped the Saints to a 38-17 record, including a 24-8 mark in the Alabama Community College Conference and the South division regular-season championship in 2015.
