Kim Kern enters her first season as the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach. She was announced on August 14, 2024.

"We are thrilled to welcome Coach Kern to our team as our new assistant coach," Phillips said. "She played a pivotal role in my development as a student-athlete for several years, both on and off the court. Her presence at AUM will undoubtedly have a positive impact, and I am eagerly anticipating the opportunity to work alongside her on the sidelines."

Kern kicked off her coaching career as the assistant coach at Brewton-Parker College from 2011-2015. She also served as the head coach of the JV women's basketball program at BPC.

Kern left BPC and went to Mississippi Valley State University for a year and was an instructor in Physical Education, Health, and Recreation.

She got back into coaching in 2017 at St. Louis College of Pharmacy where she was an assistant coach and was in charge of recruiting, fundraising, and academic compliance for the women's basketball program.

She served as the assistant coach until 2020 where she became the head women's basketball and volleyball coach at Gateway STEM High School and then in 2021 became the Principal at Atonement Lutheran School.

"I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to coach at AUM, and with Coach Phillips," Kern said. "The mission and vision here is student-focused, which is very important to me. I look forward to the good work ahead of us with continuing to build a successful women's basketball program, engaging with the local community, and developing well-rounded student-athletes."

Kern earned her Bachelors of Arts in Health and Recreation from Tougaloo College in 2010 and earned a Master of Science in Physical Education in Sport Administration from Eastern Kentucky in 2011.
