Amber Rae Childers enters her sixth total year as part of the Auburn University at Montgomery Department of Athletics.
Amber Rae Childers joined the Orange & Black in September of 2019 and serves as Associate Director of Athletics for Internal Operations and Senior Woman Administrator. Her duties include monitoring all aspects of compliance with the NCAA and Gulf South Conference and AUM rules education and enforcement, including serving on the Eligibility Certification Committee and Intercollegiate Athletics Committee. She also has oversight of academic support for Warhawk student-athletes. She serves as the liaison for student-athletes, staff and coaches between athletics and student-centered campus offices and resources.
She is also the sport supervisor for soccer and has oversight of sports medicine. Childers has served on a variety of institutional and conference committees. She has also been the tournament director of regional and super regional tournaments hosted by Auburn University at Montgomery.
Childers join the AUM staff following a nine-year stint at Utah State where she most recently served as an Assistant AD for Student-Athlete Services with the Aggies. She oversaw the Student-Athlete Academic Services (SAAS) unit including staff oversight of certification for student-athlete eligibility, coordination of the Whitesides Scholar-Athlete awards luncheon and USTARS Awards banquet, and served as summer school athletics aid coordinator.
Childers began her career with the Aggies in August of 2010 working as an Academic/Life Skills Coordinator before becoming an Assistant Director in July of 2014. In June of 2016 she was promoted to Assistant AD with Utah State and was named the Interim SAAS Director in April of this year. She was responsible for direct academic support of student-athletes of multiple teams and oversaw documentation, processing and reporting of initial and continuing progress towards degree eligibility. She also served as a member of the Utah State Athletics Executive Staff, Senior Staff, External Leadership Team, Athletics Council Gender & Minority Subcommittee, and the Student-Athlete Wellness Team.
From 2009-10 Childers served as an Assistant Academic Coordinator at North Carolina State University, providing academic support, coordinating the Academic Skills Enhancement Program and teaching courses to support first year students in college transition and degree/career exploration.
This is not Childers first time working for AUM, as she spent the 2008-09 academic year serving as an intern with the Athletics Department.
A 2008 graduate of Carroll College, Childers earned her master's degree from the University of Washington in 2009. She is an active member of Women's Leaders in College Sports, NACDA, N4A and NAAC. She serves as the administrative liaison for the GSC's Compliance and Tennis. Additionally, Childers is a member of the AUM Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee.
