Team Effort Leads Men's Basketball Over Selma 84-53

MONTGOMERY, Ala. ---- The Auburn Montgomery men's basketball team had seven different players score seven or more points in a 84-53 victory over Selma Saturday in its concluding game of the 2015-16 Jimmy Faulkner Classic.


 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Junior Phillip Rankin had another outstanding day, finishing with nine points, 14 rebounds and five blocks.
• Junior Julius McCoy finished with 11 points, including a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line, and three rebounds.
• Senior Spencer Jones hit 4-of-7 shots from the floor to finish with 11 points and two assists.
• Senior Rodrick Robinson was 4 of 6 from the floor and a perfect 2 of 2 from the free-throw line to finish with 10 points.
• Tyler Fountain led the way for Selma finishing with a team-high 14 points and eight rebounds.
• Ahmad Jackson was the only other Bulldog to finish in double-digits with his 10 points on the night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Robinson scored a basket in the paint just 46 seconds into the game. The Warhawks never lost the lead.
• AUM led 48-23 at the half, shooting 19 of 38 (50%) from the field. Robinson and Jones led the Warhawks with eight points each.
• AUM led by as many as 27 points, 45-18, in the half, following a bucket by freshman Jeffery White. The Warhawks used a 17-3 run over a 4:55 span to build the lead.
• AUM led by a game-high 33 points on four occasions, including as late as 1:07 remaining after a 3-pointer by freshman Desmond DeRamus made the score 84-51.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Warhawks converted 32-of-73 shots from the field, good for 43.8 percent. Defensively, AUM limited the Saints to just 31.3 percent from the floor.
• AUM finished 57.1 percent from the charity stripe, hitting 12 of 21 shots. Selma finished 10 of 20 (50%) from the free throw line.
• AUM outrebounded Selma 57-35, with 11 different players grabbing at least one rebound.
• AUM finished stronger in the paint, outscoring Selma 46-30.
• The AUM bench outscored Selma's bench 55-16. 

NOTES
• The contest was played as part of the Jimmy Faulkner Classic, hosted by Faulkner University. AUM has now won both games in the event three times in the past five years.
• AUM improved to 25-3 all-time against Selma.
• AUM has started off the last two years 2-0. Prior to last season, the feat had not been accomplished since the 2008-09 season.  
 
QUOTING THE COACH
"I think this was a great showing for the team, especially since they played on back-to-back days for the first time this season," head coach Michael Cheaney said. "We will continue to improve and work hard in practice to handle adversity when it comes our way."

UP NEXT
• The Warhawks will play their home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 3, by hosting Reinhardt University. The non-conference doubleheader is slated to begin with the women's game at 5:30 p.m., while the men will follow at approximately 7:30 p.m.
