MONTEVALLO, Ala. ------ Despite a game-high 21 points from senior
Grace Farnsworth, the Auburn Montgomery women's basketball team dropped a 63-58 decision at Montevallo Saturday afternoon at Trustmark Arena.
NOTES
• AUM fell to 1-10 on the season.
• The Falcons improved to 3-3 overall.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Farnsworth finished 8-of-19 from the floor, including 3-of-5 from distance, en route to matching her career best. She added six rebounds, three of which were offensive, and three steals in the contest.
•
Kaylan Withrow also scored in double figures for the Warhawks, scoring 11 points, nine of which came from behind the arc.
•
Anastasia Evans contributed nine points and three rebounds.
•
Tyra Caudle came off the bench and scored six points and pulled down a team-best eight rebounds.
• Albanellys Perez led three Falcons in double figures with a double-double of 16 points and 17 rebounds.
• Rayvon Christian (17) and Haven Albright (10) also scored in double figures.
• Jazmine Stubblefield finished with just three points, but pulled down 14 rebounds and dished out nine assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Warhawks trailed 9-4 in the opening 4:39 of the first quarter, but held the Falcons scoreless down the stretch and put together seven straight points for an 11-9 first-quarter lead.
• The second quarter went back and forth, with neither team able to establish more than a three point lead. AUM trailed 26-23 following a layup by D'Miyah Foster with 1:04 remaining, but a Caudle layup with 42 seconds remaining provide the halftime score of 26-25.
• The Falcons pulled ahead early in the third quarter, opening the period with an 11-4 run and establishing a 37-29 lead with 6:02 remaining. The Warhawks trimmed the deficit to as few as four points on a Withrow trey with 1:29 left, but Montevallo led 49-42 after three quarters.
• Montevallo built its largest lead of the game, 57-47, following a Christian layup with 4:53 left in the contest. However, Farnsworth scored the next 11 AUM points and fueled an 11-4 run, pulling the Warhawks within three, 61-58, with 2:09 remaining. Despite the rally, AUM was not able to score again, while Perez provided the final margin with a basket with 1:08 left in the contest.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM converted 22-of-69 shots from the floor, but hit just 8-of-32 from behind the arc. The Warhawks also hit 6-of-10 free throws.
• Montevallo hit 40 percent of its shots, despite making just 3-of-18 shots from distance. The Falcons made 16-of-26 shots from the charity stripe.
• The Falcons held a convincing 53-35 advantage on the glass, but just a 13-11 lead on offensive rebounds. AUM held a 10-9 advantage in second chance points.
• AUM committed just 10 turnovers, while forcing 17. The Warhawks converted those miscues to just seven points, while the Falcons managed four points off turnovers.
• The Falcons controlled the paint, outscoring the Warhawks 34-14 inside.
