Three’s Company; Hat Trick Leads to 300th Career Win

CLINTON, Miss. ----- The Auburn Montgomery men's soccer team defeated Mississippi College 4-3 Friday night, after freshman Simon Van Rheeden picked up his first career goal and hat trick, which gave head coach Wulf Koch 300 career wins.
 
NOTES
• AUM improved to 2-1, while MSC fell to 1-1-1.
• Van Rheeden tallied his first career goal in the match, which ended in his first career hat trick.  

• Koch is now in his 25th year of coaching, and has earned 300 career wins during his tenure.  

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Van Rheeden finished the night with three shots, and all three connected on frame past the keeper.
• Freshman Alexis Arriaga tallied his first career goal as well, and finished the night with two shots and an assist.
• Senior Alan Harwell finished the night with two shots and an assist, while junior Christian Young added three shots with one being on frame, and an assist.
• Senior keeper Stephen Ingram picked up seven saves throughout the match.

• Jorge Delgado led the way for the Choctaws with two goals on eight shots. Jacob Farthing added the third and final goal for Mississippi College.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• AUM scored first in the fifth minute from Van Rheeden who was assisted by Arriaga. The early goal gave the Warhawks a 1-0 lead.
• Mississippi College responded with three goals to lead 3-1 after 30 minutes. The first goal was scored in the 13th minute from Delgado, who struck again just ten minutes later. In the 29th minute, Farthing added the final goal for the Choctaws.
• Arriaga scored in the 34th minute to cut the deficit to one goal, 3-2.
• After the half, neither team was able to score for the first 20 minutes, but Van Rheeden scored his second goal of the match on a cross from Young to tie the game 3-3.

• AUM sealed the three-goal comeback after a cross from Harwell found the head of Van Rheeden in the 80th minute to give the Warhawks a 4-3 lead.  
• Ingram held strong in goal for the Warhawks, as AUM took the final decision 4-3 over Mississippi College.  

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM finished the match with 13 shots, and put seven on frame. Mississippi College ended the game with 25 shots, and put ten on frame.
• AUM finished with seven saves, while Mississippi College only tallied three.  

• Mississippi College led AUM in corner kicks 5-0.
• AUM had five players finish the match with two or more shots, while Mississippi College only had four.

QUOTING THE COACH
• "I am very proud of how our team responded being down 3-1 before the half, and the way this team rallied together to bring home a victory," head coach Wulf Koch mentioned. "Simon played extremely well today, and showed us what he is truly capable of doing. We made a few adjustments at the half, and the team responded with great character for such a young team."

• The Warhawks will travel to Cleveland, Miss. next to face Delta State University on Sunday, September 11, at 3:30 p.m.
