MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama in Huntsville Chargers exploded for four second half goals en route to a 5-0 victory over the homestanding Auburn Montgomery Warhawks on Sunday afternoon at the AUM Soccer Complex in Gulf South Conference men's soccer action.
NOTES
• AUM falls to 0-10 on the season, with a 0-3 mark in the GSC.
• UAH improves to 4-4-1, with a 3-0-1 mark in league play.
• This was the Chargers third game at the AUM Soccer Complex this season, having taken part in the 2017 Capital City Classic on Sept. 8-10. They are now 2-1 at the facility.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• UAH's Jordan Wright and Gunnar Birgisson each tallied a goal and an assist in the contest.
• AUM's
Stephen Ingram recorded six saves at goalkeeper.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Wright put the Chargers on the board in the fourth minute when he blasted a shot from 30 yards out that surged into the upper right of the net. It was Wright's fifth goal of the season
• Connor Smelser got his first goal of the year in the 50
th minute of play, taking a through ball from Corentin Diverres and beating the keeper one on one to put UAH up 2-0.
• Girgisson took a give-and-go ball from Wright just outside the 18 and beat Ingram to his left from 15 yards away.
• Shane Woodruff got his first goal of the season when his shot in the 81
st minute deflected off of an AUM defender and curved into the right side of the net.
• Connor Young tallied the final goal of the match in the 89
th minute, taking a pass from Deivi Bucio down the right flank and beating the keeper to his left.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• UAH took 23 shots (12 on goal) while AUM took five (two on goal).
• The Chargers also earned 14 corner kicks while the Warhawks recorded three.
UP NEXT
The Warhawks be on the road for their next two contests, taking on Gulf South Conference opponents Christian Brothers on Oct. 6, before squaring off against Union on Oct. 8.
