MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery volleyball team dropped both of its matches of Saturday's tri-match, falling to host Montevallo, 3-1 (25-17, 20-25, 10-25, 14-25), and visiting Spring Hill, 3-0 (14-25, 14-25, 15-25).
NOTES
• AUM now stands at 8-14 overall and 1-9 in conference matches.
• Montevallo improved to 10-11 overall and 4-6 in Gulf South Conference play.
• Spring Hill is now 24-3 on the season.
MATCH 1 STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Kheala Roberts finished with a team-high eight kills on 30 attacks. She added three digs, a pair of service aces, a solo block and a block assist.
•
Carly Smart posted 25 assists, four kills, two digs and a pair of block assists.
•
Skylar Coppinger recorded a team-best 15 digs, while contributing five kills, a block assist and a service ace.
•
Brianna Garvin posted seven kills, two solo blocks and two block assists.
•
Haley Toler finished with 10 digs for the Warhawks.
• Amanda Nugent led the Falcons with a double-double of 11 kills and 17 digs.
• Evelina Teran notched a game-high 14 kills, while adding three block assists.
• Kristy Bohan finished with 12 kills, a solo block, four block assists and three digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED (MATCH 1)
• The Warhawks opened the first set with an 11-8 run and forced a Montevallo timeout. Coming out of the timeout, AUM scored eight of the next 11 points and extended its lead to 19-11, before eventually winning the first set 25-17.
• The back-and-forth second set was tied at 12-12 and was a one-point match as late as a 16-15 Montevallo lead. However, the Falcons closed the contest with a 9-5 run to tie the match at a set apiece.
• The Falcons opened set three with seven straight points and a 10-1 run and never looked back, taking a 2-1 advantage with a 25-10 triumph.
• Montevallo also took control of the fourth early, rushing out to a 13-5 advantage following consecutive kills by Nugent. The Warhawks closed to within seven, 20-13, but were unable to get closer.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (MATCH 1)
• AUM finished the match 32 kills on 120 attacks, finishing with a .067 hitting percentage.
• Montevallo posted 56 kills on 123 attacks, posting a .317 hitting percentage.
• The Warhawks finished with five service aces, while the Falcons recorded eight.
• AUM tallied seven total blocks. Montevallo finished with 11.
• The Falcons held a 57-43 advantage in digs.
MATCH 2 STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Roberts again paced the Warhawks, finishing with nine kills, 12 digs and two block assists.
• Smart posted 15 digs, five kills and assisted on 18 additional points.
• Garvin tallied three kills and two solo blocks.
•
Tynesha McWilliams finished with four digs, two service aces and a kill.
• Payton Gidney finished with 12 kills and 11 digs for Spring Hill.
• Cassidi Sterrett tallied a team-leading 15 digs for the Badgers.
• Allison Weimer and Sarah Senft recorded 10 kills apiece.
HOW IT HAPPENED (MATCH 2)
• Leading 5-4, Spring Hill took control of the first set with a 5-1 run and opened a 10-5 lead. AUM stayed close, trailing just 14-10, but the Badgers closed the set with an 11-4 run to take the first set.
• The Warhawks took an early 7-6 advantage in set two, but Spring Hill answered with an 11-4 run and pulled ahead 18-10 on a Weimer kill. The Badgers maintained control en route to a 25-14 victory in the second set.
• AUM scored the first four points of the third set, keyed by a pair of aces by McWilliams. The Badgers answered with four points of their own to tie the score at 4-4. The two sides played to a 12-12 tie, but Spring Hill pulled away with an 8-1 spurt, before eventually winning the set 25-15.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (MATCH 2)
• The Warhawks finished with 26 kills on 110 attacks, posting a hitting percentage of just .091.
• The Badgers tallied 50 kills on 113 swings, recording a hitting percentage of .345.
• AUM recorded four total blocks, while Spring Hill posted three.
• The Badgers held a 63-46 advantage in digs in the match.
