Smart Records Double-Double In Volleyball’s 3-0 Loss To UAH

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery volleyball team hosted the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Friday afternoon, falling to the visiting Chargers 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-15).
 
NOTES
• AUM falls to 7-10 on the season with a 1-6 mark in Gulf South Conference action.
• UAH improves to 13-7, 4-3 in league play.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Junior setter Carly Smart finished the contest with 18 assists and 11 digs for her sixth double-double of the season while adding five kills on a team-best .364 clip.
• Junior middle blocker Brianna Garvin led both sides with 11 kills and assisted on one block.
• Sophomore defensive specialist Haley Toler anchored the defense with 12 digs, followed by Smart and redshirt junior right-side hitter Kheala Roberts with 11 each.
• Redshirt freshman middle blocker Jaylyn Felder and sophomore outside hitter Tynesha McWilliams each matched their career-highs in service aces with two apiece.
• For the Chargers, Anna LeDuc paced a balanced attack with 8 kills while Haley Hop logged 18 digs, Kirsten Giles posted 18 assists with two service aces and Anna Claire Johnson blocked a match-high three attempts.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• AUM held the lead for the early phase of the opening set, until a 4-0 run by the visitors propelled them to a 14-11 advantage. The Warhawks ended the run and cut the deficit down to two, but another 4-0 spree from the Chargers extended the lead to six at 18-12.
• UAH opened the second frame with six-consecutive points and never trailed in the set. The Warhawks managed to get within one at 16-15 behind a behind a 9-3 stretch, but a 6-2 retort from the Chargers recreated a five-point cushion at 22-17. AUM yet again rallied back and made it a one-point set at 23-22 before back-to-back points for the visitors ended the frame.
• With a tied 3-all score in the third set, UAH went on an 11-0 run to create a double-digit lead at 14-3 and never let the Warhawks get within eight points.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM finished the match with 24 kills on a .019 hitting percentage versus 36 on a .171 clip for Alabama-Huntsville
• The Warhawks held a slim 51-50 advantage in digs.
• The Chargers won the battle at the net with seven blocks with the Warhawks posting two.
• UAH served seven aces while AUM posted five.

AUM returns to the friendly confines of the AUM Gymnasium on Saturday, Oct. 7 when they host the University of North Alabama at 2 p.m.
