Garvin Has Career-Outing in Volleyball’s 3-1 Loss To West Alabama

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery volleyball team began the final weekend of the season on Friday evening, suffering a 3-1 setback (25-23, 25-17, 19-25, 25-17)
 to the University of West Alabama.
 
NOTES
• AUM drops to 9-20 overall, 1-14 in Gulf South Conference action.
• West Alabama improves to 19-12 on the season and 11-4 in GSC play.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Junior middle blocker Brianna Garvin boasted a career-high 17 kills.
• Junior setter Carly Smart recorded 40 assists while chipping in seven digs.
• Sophomore defensive specialist Haley Toler and redshirt freshman middle blocker Jaylyn Felder both posted 13 digs, with Felder adding seven kills.
• Redshirt junior right-side hitter Kheala Roberts contributed 11 kills with seven digs
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• AUM held an early lead in the opening set, creating a 4-1 advantage before a 4-0 spree by the hosts propelled them to a 5-4 edge. The Warhawks responded with back-to-back points to flip the lead, but an equal response by UWA put them back on top with the Tigers holding onto the lead for the rest of the set.
• West Alabama took control of the second set behind a 7-1 run midway through the frame that gave them a 13-8 lead. AUM cut the deficit down to two at 16-14 before four-straight points for UWA recreated a six-point separation at 20-14.
• Facing elimination, AUM boasted 15 kills to force a fourth set. The two sides exchanged the opening 26 points of the frame before a 5-0 run pushed the Warhawks to an 18-13 lead and kept the separation greater than four for the remainder of the set.
• UWA scored seven of the opening 10 points of the final set and led for the entire frame.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM finished the match with 46 kills on a .283 hitting percentage versus 64 on a .374 clip for West Alabama.
• UWA won the battle at the net with four blocks with the Warhawks posting two.
• West Alabama recorded six service aces while AUM had four.
• The Tigers held a slim 55-53 advantage in digs.
 
UP NEXT
AUM concludes the season on Saturday, Nov. 11 at Christian Brothers. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
