Late Run Lifts Tuskegee Past Women’s Basketball 59-57

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery women's basketball team was unable to overcome a fourth-quarter rally by the visiting Tuskegee University on Tuesday evening, falling to the Golden Tigers 59-57.
 
NOTES
• AUM drops to 3-2 on the season.
• Tuskegee improves to 1-3.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Sophomore guard Aaliyah Milord paced the Warhawks with 15 points to go with five rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block.
• Junior guard Jemaiya Lee chipped in 12 points while grabbing a team-high eight rebounds.
• Junior guard Evelina Avleeva scored nine points with seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.
• Redshirt senior guard Kyla Rooks dished out a team-high four assists and recorded a game-high three steals.
• For Tuskegee, Jade Wilson scored a game-high 16 points and eight rebounds.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• After exchanging the opening eight points of the contest, AUM fired off a quick 6-0 run to take a 10-4 advantage. Tuskegee ended the run with a jumper only for another six-point spree by AUM creating a double-digit lead at 16-6.
• Tuskegee managed to knot the score at 27-all late in the second quarter behind an 11-1 run, but the Warhawks scored a pair of baskets in the final minute of the half to go into the intermission with a 31-27 lead.
• AUM opened up the second half on a 9-4 run to extend the separation up to nine at 40-31 before back-to-back TU baskets made it 40-35. The Warhawks outscored Tuskegee 5-4 over the final two minutes of the frame to go into the final quarter with a 45-39 lead.
• Tuskegee began the fourth quarter on an 11-4 run to take their first lead of the contest at 50-49. AUM knotted the score up at 50-all, with the two sides splitting the ensuing 12 points to keep the score tied at 56-56 with 20 seconds remaining. The Golden Tigers took the advantage with a late field goal, while a 1-2 outing at the line for AUM kept Tuskegee ahead 58-57 with another TU free throw securing a two-point advantage.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Warhawks converted on 21-47 shots, including 4-14 from three-point territory and 11-23 from the free throw line.
• Tuskegee finished 22-58 from the field, 2-12 from distance and 13-16 from the free throw line.
• Tuskegee scored 32 points in the paint versus 18 for the Warhawks.
• AUM committed 22 turnovers, resulting in 23 TU points. Tuskegee committed 20 turnovers, leading to eight points.
• Tuskegee held a 39-30 advantage in rebounds.
• AUM dished out 18 assists, Tuskegee had 16.
• AUM recorded 14 steals while Young Harris finished with 15.

The women's basketball team begins Gulf South Conference play on Thursday, Nov. 30 at Lee University. Tip off is slated for 5 p.m.
