Women's Basketball Upended By Anderson 74-43

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery women's basketball wrapped up a season-long four-game homestand on Saturday afternoon, falling to the visiting Trojans of Anderson University 74-43.
 
NOTES
• AUM drops to 6-5 on the season.
• Anderson improves to 9-4 overall.
• It is the first time an opponent has eclipsed 70 points against the Warhawks this season.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Junior guard/forward Evelina Avleeva led both sides with 17 points while blocking a pair of shots on defense. Avleeva led AUM in scoring in every December contest.
• Sophomore guard Alex Brown chipped in seven points with a career-high three steals.
• Redshirt senior guard Kyla Rooks matched her season-best with seven rebounds while dishing out a team-best three assists.
• For Anderson, Alexy Mollenhauer scored 15 points with Madison Baggett boasting 10 assists.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• AUM began the contest going 3-3 from the field, including a triple, to hold a 7-4 lead before a 16-0 Anderson run created a 13-point separation at 20-7. AUM scored the final basket of the quarter with a layup from freshman guard Makaylla Bullard to make it 20-9.
• The Warhawks cut the deficit to single-digits on the opening play of the second quarter, with redshirt sophomore center Bailee Wolfe finding sophomore guard Alex Brown to make it 20-11 only for back-to-back baskets from Anderson extending their lead back to 13. Junior guard/forward Jemaiya Lee and Avleeva made baskets sandwiching a triple for the Trojans to make it 27-15 before a 14-2 run to end the half by Anderson made it 41-17.
• Anderson opened up the second half on a 15-7 run to extend the lead to 32 points at 56-24. The Warhawks ended the frame on a 10-4 spree with seven points from Avleeva and three from Brown to make it 60-34 after three quarters.
• AUM continued to cut into the lead in the final stanza, getting a basket from senior guard Nadia Stewart and a free throw from sophomore forward Aaliyah Milord in a 3-1 stretch to make it 61-37. Anderson responded with a 13-1 run to create a game-high 36-point separation at 74-38. AUM ended the contest with the final five points with Brown, junior center Makayla Liles and freshman guard Jessika Milton all connecting on free throws over the final 2:30.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Warhawks converted on 16-64 shots, going 3-22 from three-point territory and 8-21 from the free throw line.
• Anderson went 29-76 from the field, 10-23 from beyond the arc and 6-9 from the free throw line.
• AUM recorded 10 assists while the Trojans posted 18.
• AUM committed 11 turnovers, resulting in seven AU points. Anderson committed 16 turnovers, leading to 15 points.
• Anderson held a 65-36 advantage in rebounds.
• The Trojans scored 26 points in the paint versus 22 for the Warhawks.
• AUM recorded nine steals with seven blocks while Anderson stole the ball six times with four blocks.
