MONTGOMERY, Ala. ----- The Auburn Montgomery men's basketball team dropped an 87-76 decision Monday evening to visiting West Florida at the AUM Gymnasium.
NOTES
• The Warhawks fell to 6-19 on the season.
• The Argos improved to 18-8 overall.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Darrion Taylor led the Warhawks with 21 points, adding five rebounds, two assists and a steal.
•
Romoane Eager came off the bench to score 18 points, grab five rebounds and dish out four assists.
•
Desmond DeRamus and
Julius McCoy scored 10 points each. DeRamus added four assists.
•
Michael Bryant scored eight points off the bench, hitting a pair of 3-pointers en route to the total.
•
Jarett Croff scored seven points, pulled down eight rebounds and blocked three shots.
• Marvin Jones led all players with 28 points, hitting six 3-pointers, for the Argos.
• Deangelo Legrier finished with 19 points off the bench.
• Darryl Tucker also scored in double figures, finishing with 15 points for UWF.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Warhawks took a 3-0 lead in the opening 39 seconds, but the Argos quickly gained the advantage with a 10-0 run during the next 2:20, capped by a dunk by Tucker.
• AUM battled back and closed the gap to just three points following a trey by McCoy with 14:33 remaining in the half.
• The Warhawks stayed close, trailing just 27-22, following a layup by Eager with 7:34 remaining before halftime, but West Florida countered with eight straight points and extended the lead to 35-22 with 5:58 left.
• The margin grew to 16 points on a pair of occasions, including as late at 2:06 remaining (42-26), but the Warhawks closed the half with six consecutive points to provide the halftime margin of 42-32.
• West Florida built its lead to a game-high 17 points, 57-40, following a layup by Jones with 15:43 left in the contest.
• The Warhawks chipped away at the deficit, pulling to within 10 points, 75-65, on an Eager layup with 7:07 remaining.
• The Argos answered with an 8-2 run and extended the lead back to 16 points, 83-67, with 4:28 left in the contest.
• The Warhawks trailed by 16 points with less than a minute to play, but Taylor scored the final five points of the game to provide the final margin.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Warhawks converted 28-of-63 shots from the floor for the game, good for 44.4 percent. AUM hit 11-of-28 3-pointers and 9-of-10 free throws.
• The Argos hit a blazing 56.9 percent of their shots from the field, but just 8-of-20 from distance. UWF also sank 13-of-18 free thows.
• AUM committed 17 turnovers in the contest, while forcing 14 by West Florida. The Warhawks held a 16-15 edge in points off turnovers.
• Each team recorded 32 rebounds, with AUM holding a 13-9 advantage on the offensive boards. The Warhawks edged the Argos in second-chance points, 9-8.
• AUM's bench outscored West Florida 38-24.
