MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. ---- The Auburn Montgomery men's tennis team dropped its second consecutive match against a nationally-ranked opponent Friday, as it fell at No. 11 Georgia College, 5-4.
In their last outing, the Warhawks (5-3) fell to No. 4 Lander by an identical 5-4 score. The Bobcats improved to 6-3.
AUM fell behind after the doubles portion of the match, as only the duo of
Francisco Mendieta and
Alvaro Terron were victorious.
Despite an early singles win by Mendieta, the Warhawks trailed 4-2 and faced match point with three positions still playing. AUM pulled to within one when
Birkir Gunnarsson picked up a straight-set win at the No. 5 spot, before Terror squared the match up with a two-set victory at the No. 4 position.
Santiago Veglia was unable to hold on to a first-set victory at the No. 6 position, where he fell 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 to cap the contest.
The Warhawks return to action Monday, March 13, when they open their Spring Break trip in Florida by travelling to Lynn University. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
