MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. ---- The Auburn Montgomery women's tennis team earned its sixth straight victory with a 5-0 upset victory of No. 19 Georgia College Friday.
With the win, the Warhawks improved to 8-1 on the season, while the Bobcats fell to 4-4 overall.
AUM set the tone for the match in doubles, earning wins on all three courts. The duo of
Kelly Southwood and
Celine Lenertz rolled to an 8-0 victory at the No. 2 spot, while the Warhawks secured 8-6 wins at the No. 1 (
Paula Diaz/
Anna Rudolfova) and No. 3 (
Iris Verweij/
Alejandra Gil) positions, respectively.
In singles, Verweij breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 win at the third position, before Southwood clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2, victory at the top spot. The four remaining matches did not finish.
The Warhawks return to action Monday, March 13, when they open their Spring Break trip in Florida by travelling to Lynn University. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
