HOW IT HAPPENED
• After each starting pitcher recorded a three-up, three-down inning to begin the contest, Russell led off the top of the second frame with a single.
John-Mark Cosby followed with a single up the middle on an 0-1 count. With runners on first and second with no outs,
Houston Davenport laid down a sacrifice bunt to put the runners in scoring position. Flynn then recorded his RBI single to put the Warhawks up 1-0.
• In the bottom of the second, Scott escaped a jam with two runners on by getting a ground ball to the second baseman
Michael Tedford.
• Each side provided minimal offense the rest of the contest until there were two outs in the bottom of the seventh, when Talladega's centerfielder Davis singled up the middle. Martinez then followed with a single down the left field line, advancing Davis to third. However, Martinez was too aggressive on the bus paths and got caught in a rundown between first and second. Ultimately, Langley chased him all the way back to the bag and tossed to the first baseman
Curtiss Johnson for the final out of the contest, solidifying Scott's first career complete game shutout.
