MIAMI SHORES, Fla. ---- The Auburn Montgomery women's tennis team was defeated by No. 6 Barry, 7-2, at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex Thursday.
The loss dropped the Warhawks to 9-3 on the season, while the Buccaneers remained undefeated at 14-0. In its previous five matches entering today, Barry has defeated No. 4 Saint Leo, No. 5 Hawaii Pacific, No. 1 Armstrong State, No. 14 Valdosta State and No. 7 West Florida, winning by a combined score of 33-5, with no team scoring more than two points in defeat.
AUM was able to get on the board in doubles play, when
Kelly Southwood and
Celine Lenertz were victorious at the No. 2 position. The victory marked just the second time this season the Buccaneers have lost a point in doubles play.
In singles play, the Warhawks dropped matches at the first five spots in straight sets, but picked up a win at the No. 6 position, when
Anna Rudolfova won via retirement against Judith Bohnenkamp. Rudolfova led 5-4 in the first set at the time of the retirement and marked just the fifth singles loss of the season by a Buc player.
The Warhawks will conclude their Florida road trip with a match Friday, March 17 against St. Thomas Aquinas. The match will be played at the USTA Tennis Center in Lake Nona, Fla., and will begin at 11 a.m.
