THOMASVILLE, Ga. ------ After winning game one on Friday at Thomas University, the Auburn Montgomery baseball team fell in game one Saturday, but cruised to a series-clinching win in game two. The final score of each game was 9-1 and 9-5 respectively.
NOTES
• AUM moved to 10-13 on the season.
• The Night Hawks are now 12-20.
GAME ONE STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Nathan Langley singled, stole a base and scored a run.
• Junior
Donovan Chandler singled and walked.
•
Tanner Russell singled in two runs.
•
Brandon Davis and
Curtiss Johnson both recorded a hit in the contest.
• Tanner Elsbernd went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Jalbert Melo had two hits including a home run, two runs scored and three runs batted in.
• Jordan Martin started for the Night Hawks, pitching six innings, striking out six and allowing just one unearned run.
GAME TWO STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Michael Tedford logged a two-run double and scored twice in the contest.
• Langley tallied three singles and an RBI. He also stole his second bag of the day.
• Chandler singled, had an RBI and swiped two bags.
•
Houston Davenport singled once and scored twice.
•
Chase Johnson started and earned the win for the Warhawks, lasting 5 1/3 innings and surrendering four earned runs.
• Hollingsworth tripled and hit a home run, driving in three for the Night Hawks.
HOW IT HAPPENED in GAME ONE
• In the top of the first, Russell singled in Langley to give the Warhawks a 1-0 lead.
• In the bottom half of the first, the Mountain Lions evened the contest with an RBI double by Hollingsworth.
• In the next inning, Thomas gained the lead with an RBI groundout that was then followed by a Summers single to push the score to 3-1.
• The Night Hawks would add three more on in the bottom of the third, two coming on one swing by Melo.
• Elsbernd singled in Westbrook in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 7-1 game.
• Melo doubled in another run in the fifth inning and succeeded by a Melcolm sacrifice fly to put AUM in a 9-1 hole. Neither team provided any offense the rest of the contest and the Warhawks fell 9-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED in GAME TWO
• With two outs in the bottom of the first, Hollingsworth homered to give the Night Hawks a 2-0 lead.
• In the top of the fourth, Chandler reached on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded to score Davenport to cut the deficit in half.
• The Warhawks exploded for seven crucial runs in the top of the fifth. It started when Davenport reached on an error and
Trevor Flynn followed with a walk. Davis singled in Davenport to tie the game at two. The next batter, Tedford, doubled in two to give the Warhawks the lead, 4-2.
• After the starter Rznewicki was lifted after the Tedford double, Langley singled in Tedford to push the score to 5-2. After Langley swiped second, Chandler singled him in to make it 6-2. After Russell drove in the seventh run on an error by the shortstop, Johnson singled in Russell to make it an 8-2 game.
• In the top of the sixth, Chandler reached on another fielder's choice to extend the lead to seven.
• In the next half, Thomas struck back for three hits and three runs to bring the score to its final state of 9-5.
• Langley shut down the Night Hawks in the bottom of the seventh, and the Warhawks clinched the weekend series.
INSIDE THE GAME ONE BOX SCORE
• Thomas committed the only error in the ballgame.
• The Warhawks stranded seven runners on base and the Night Hawks left five.
INSIDE THE GAME TWO BOX SCORE
• AUM did not have any errors in the field and the Night Hawks had four defensive miscues.
• Auburn Montgomery left 13 runners on base and Thomas stranded four.
