LIVINGSTON, Ala. ----- Due in large part to a five run seventh inning surrendered by the Auburn Montgomery baseball team, the West Alabama Tigers defeated the Warhawks with a final tally of 9-5 on Tuesday evening.
NOTES
• The Warhawks fell to 13-16.
• West Alabama improved to 21-10
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Wade Bannister started on the hill for AUM, lasting five complete innings while surrendering two runs, both earned, while striking out six Tiger hitters.
•
Michael Tedford went 1-for-4 with an RBI and stolen base.
•
Donovan Chandler and
Trevor Flynn each had two hits and an RBI in five at bats.
•
Parker Moman registered a single and scored twice.
• Dylann Stafford had two hits and three RBIs for West Alabama.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Tedford singled through the infield with one out in the third to get the Warhawks going offensively. After he stole second, Flynn was hit by a pitch to put two on with one down. Trying to get the runners into scoring position,
Nathan Langley legged out a bunt attempt to load the bases.
John-Mark Cosby flew out to center, scoring Tedford and AUM led 1-0.
• The next inning, after a pair of walks to Moman and Chandler, Flynn singled to right to double the Warhawk advantage.
• Dylan Little singled in two in the bottom of the fifth to knot the game at two.
• After the Tigers tied it in the previous half inning, Auburn Montgomery regained the lead in the sixth when Moman singled on a safety squeeze by Tedford.
• The Tigers had their leadoff hitter reach in the bottom of the sixth via a hit by pitch, who later came around to score on a first and third double steal attempt. The score was 3-3 heading to the seventh frame.
• Cosby and
Curtiss Johnson singled to lead off the seventh to put AUM in position to take the lead.
Scotty Smith laid down a bunt to put the runners in scoring position, but the pitcher air mailed the throw, scoring the lead runner and leaving two in scoring position with no outs. With two outs later in the inning, Chandler singled, scoring Smith and the Warhawks led 5-3.
• The bottom of the seventh spelled doom for AUM as the Warhawks used four different pitchers to get through the inning, allowing five Tiger runs. With one out in the inning, Stafford doubled down the right field line to tie the game at five a side. Stafford then acquired third base and scored on two separate wild pitches, giving UWA the lead. The Tigers would push across two more in the inning, and another in the bottom of the eighth to inevitably defeat the Auburn Montgomery Warhawks with a final score of 9-5.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Warhawks left 16 runners on base. The Tigers stranded just six on the base paths.
• West Alabama had the only defensive lapse.
