MONTGOMERY, Ala. ------ The Auburn Montgomery softball team fell in both games of Tuesday afternoon's doubleheader against Nova Southeastern University by an 8-1 decision in game one, and a late 4-3 loss in game two.
NOTES
• The Warhawks fell to 14-9 on the year.
• The Sharks improved to 10-10 on the season.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Freshman
Parker Pinholster led the way for the Warhawks offensively with a hit in the first game, and tallied a 2-for-4 performance in game two with a triple, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base.
• Freshman
Jaycie Walker picked up a hit in both games, as well as an RBI double in the first. She currently leads the team with 26 hits and seven doubles.
• Sophomore
Kaylin Finch tallied two hits in the second game as well as a double. Juniors
Amy Persinger and
Rose Schmidt each tallied a double on the day as well.
• Senior
Rachel Ragland picked up a hit in each game, and also tallied an RBI and a run scored in game two.
• Dana Edmundson led the way for Nova Southeastern with four RBIs on the day, three hits, two runs scored, a double and a home run.
GAME 1 HOW IT HAPPENED
• Nova Southeastern scored first in the top of the opening inning on a two-out walk, which was followed by two singles and a walk to give the Sharks an early 1-0 lead. Â
• After a scoreless second, Nova Southeastern added an additional run in the top of the third after an error scored Storrer to make the score 2-0.
• Nova Southeastern tallied one run each in the fourth and fifth to lead 4-0 heading to the bottom of the fifth.
• AUM tallied its sole run of the game in the bottom of the fifth on a Walker double down the right field line that scored Schmidt, bringing the score to 4-1.
• Nova Southeastern scored its remaining four runs in the top of the sixth after a single to center scored Edmundson, and a bases loaded triple from Gonzales gave the Sharks an 8-1 advantage.
• AUM tallied one hit in the final two frames as Tiffany recorded her first career hit. However, the Warhawks fell in game one 8-1.
GAME 2 HOW IT HAPPENED
• AUM struck first in the bottom of the first inning, after Pinholster led off the inning with a single. Pinholster stole second, and advanced to third on a groundout. Sparks grounded out to third, which brought home Pinholster for the early 1-0 Warhawk lead.
• AUM tallied two additional runs in the bottom of the second after a double from Persinger was followed up by a Ragland RBI single up the middle. Ragland came around to score on a Pinholster triple that gave the Warhawks a 3-0 advantage after two.
• Nova Southeastern responded immediately in the top of the third scoring two runs on a hit and an error. Both runs were unearned, however the Warhawks still held a 3-2 lead.
• Nova Southeastern took the lead in the top of the fifth on a two-run homer to right field from Edmundson that gave the Sharks the 4-3 advantage.
• AUM was unable to score the remainder of the game scattering a pair of hits from Finch in the sixth, and Walker in the seventh. Nova Southeastern hung on to win the second game 4-3, despite being out-hit by AUM.
UP NEXT
• The Warhawks will return to action on Thursday, March 9, when they travel to Livingston, Ala. to face the University of West Alabama in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
