SAVANNAH, Ga. ---- The Auburn Montgomery men's tennis team capped its 2017 season in convincing fashion, as it upset No. 4 Armstrong State 5-3 Friday at the Armstrong Tennis Complex.
With the win, the Warhawks concluded their first season completing a full NCAA Division II schedule with a 13-6 record. The Pirates fell to 15-6 overall.
AUM faced a tough challenge in the doubles portion of the match, as two of ASU's three doubles teams were ranked in the nation's top 20. The Warhawks secured a victory at the No. 2 position, where senior

Alvaro Terron rolled to an 8-1 win. The tandem of
Matias Destefanis and
Santiago Veglia narrowly missed out on giving AUM an edge after doubles, but the duo was defeated by the No. 19 tandem of Ignacio Hernandez and Luca Cerin, 9-8.
In singles, the Warhawks tied the match when
Birkir Gunnarsson picked up a straight-set win at the No. 5 spot over Lorenzo Camilli, 6-2, 6-1. The Pirates regained the lead when Veglia was defeated at the No. 6 spot. Terron evened the match at 3-3 when he defeated Jan Porteset 7-6, 6-3 at the No. 4 position.
The Warhawks took their first lead of the match following a victory by
Vincent Dubosclard at the top spot, where he earned a 7-6, 6-1 win over the nation's No. 8 player, Cerin. Destefanis clinched the match with a three-set victory over No. 13 Alberto Caceres at the second spot, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
The match between Mendieta and Hernandez was not completed, with each player winning a set.
