LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. ------ Led by a strong start by senior
Chase Johnson, the Auburn Montgomery baseball team's offense unloaded for eight runs on 14 hits to take down the NAIA eighth-ranked Georgia Gwinnett Grizzlies on Friday night. The final score was 8-4.
NOTES
• The Warhawks evened their record at 20-20.
• Georgia Gwinnett fell to 30-16.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Johnson continued his hot streak on the mound, lasting 8 1/3 innings, surrendering three earned runs and striking out five. He improved his record to 5-4.
• Shortstop
Nathan Langley had a walked and tripled, driving in three runs.

John-Mark Cosby recorded four hits on the day.
•
Tanner Russell and
Houston Davenport each had a pair of hits and an RBI.
•
Trevor Flynn went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
•
Curtiss Johnson and
Donovan Chandler both singled and scored.
• Grizzly shortstop Marcus McCorkle had two hits and two runs batted in, along with a stolen base.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Chandler led off the ballgame with a single and after a throwing error by Grizzly starting pitcher Uherek, scored on a Cosby single.
• Davenport singled to lead off the next inning and the Warhawks, taking advantage of the NAIA courtesy runner for the catcher rule, subbed in
Scotty Smith.
• Russell led off the bottom of the third with a double and eventually scored on a fielder's choice and throwing error combination by the Albany State third baseman. The Warhawks led 4-3 after three innings. After Langley laid down a sacrifice bunt to put Smith in scoring position, Russell singled to put runners on the corners with just one away. During the next at bat, Smith scored on a wild pitch and the Warhawks led 2-0 heading to the bottom of the second.
• Hamilton led off the Grizzly half of the second with a double and scored on the next play when Shoppe singled to center to cut the AUM lead in half, 2-1.
• Bradley led off the bottom of the fifth with a single and eventually found himself at third base following a sacrifice bunt and a balk by Johnson. Figueroa would then ground one to second, scoring Bradley and the game was tied for the first time since the opening frame.
• Flynn singled with one away in the top of the sixth to get something going for the Warhawks. With two down, Davenport singled to keep the inning alive. Ahead in the count 1-0, Langley crushed a ball to deep right, scoring both runners and extending his team-leading triples total to three. The next hitter, Russell singled in Langley to push the score to 5-2 heading to the bottom half.
• A pair of hitters reached base to begin the home half of the eighth for the Grizzlies. With one out, McCorkle singled to center, scoring both the runners and the AUM lead was trimmed to 5-4.
• Cosby singled for the fourth time in the top of the ninth and Flynn reached on a sacrifice bunt attempt to put two on with no outs. Attempting to lay down another sacrifice bunt in the inning,
Curtiss Johnson reached to load the bases. The following hitter, Davenport was hit by his team-leading 11
th hit by pitch of the season to increase the lead to 6-4. With the count full, Langley walked to extend the lead to three runs. The Warhawks would add their final tally of the game on a wild pitch and led 8-4 heading to the bottom of the ninth.
• Johnson got the first hitter of the inning, Shoppe to fly out to center but the next hitter, Jones singled to end Johnson's day.
Hank Scott came on in relief of Johnson and recorded two punch outs, one swinging and one looking and AUM took the Friday night game, 8-4.
