HOW IT HAPPENED
• Chandler led off the bottom of the first with a double and moved to third on a Tedford sacrifice bunt that the defense was unable to make the play on. The next hitter, Cosby grounded into a 4-6-3 double play, scoring Chandler to give the Warhawks the lead.
• In the top of the fifth, Purcell hit a line drive over the left field fence to tie the game at one a side.
• The score would remain 1-1 until the bottom of the eighth, with each side providing little to no offense.
• With the count full at 3-2,
Michael Tedford drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the eighth. Behind in the count 1-2, Cosby singled through the right side to put two on and no outs for
Curtiss Johnson. Johnson squared to show bunt, but missed the high fastball. However, on the play Tedford stole third and Cosby took second due to the defense abandoning their stations to cover the bunt. Johnson would eventually walk to load the bases with no outs.
• The next hitter, Langley sent a fly ball into right center, scoring Tedford to regain the lead. After Russell walked to re-load the bases, Flynn slapped an opposite field single to left to double the lead. Davenport followed with an RBI single and Davis succeeded that with a sacrifice fly of his own and the Warhawks led 5-1.
• The Bobcats mustered just a base on balls in the top of the ninth, and Auburn Montgomery took the opening game of the final series of the year 5-1.
