JACKSONVILLE, Ala. ----- The Auburn Montgomery women's cross country team opened the 2017 season by finishing fifth in the White Division of the JSU Struts Invitational Friday.
NOTES
• A total of 19 teams competed in the meet, nine Division I institutions in the Red Division and 10 non-DI's in the White Division.
• Running unattached, Nicole Fegans was the top finisher in the White Division with a 4K time of 14:06.40. Emily Kearney of SCAD Atlanta was the top team finisher, crossing the finish line second with a time of 14:14.70.
• Amy Ruiz from Georgia Tech earned the individual title in the Red Division with a time of 14:20.50.
INDIVIDUAL FINISHES
•
Katelynn Burns was the top finisher for AUM, posting a PR time of 16:17.50 to finish 29th in the field of 98 runners.
•
Tanishya Jones was the second to finish for the Warhawks, recording a time of 16:46.40 to place 37th.
•
Benisse Inamahoro (16:51.20) and
Ansley Story (16:51.70) had strong showings, finishing 39th and 40th overall, respectively.
•
Victoria McCurry posted a time of 17:30.40 and finished 53rd in her debut with the team.
•
Kelly Dawson (18:25.30) and
Brooke Schultz (19:45.80) rounded out the scoring for the Warhawks.
TEAM FINISHES
• North Georgia took home the team championship in the White Division, posting 50 points. SCAD Atlanta was second with 67 points, while Alabama-Huntsville finished third with 88 points. Columbus State (164) and AUM (165) rounded out the top five.
• AUM finished ahead of Birmingham Southern, West Georgia, Tuskegee, Huntingdon and Miles.
• Georgia Tech earned the top honors in the Red Division, finishing with only 23 points. The Yellow Jackets finished 34 points ahead of second-place finisher, Alabama.
QUOTING THE COACH
"The women ran really well," Coach
Ryan Thompson said. "They had a hard workout on Wednesday, so I feel like that took away from there overall performance. Overall, I am pleased and think we are putting the pieces together."
