MONTEVALLO, Ala. ---- The Auburn Montgomery women's cross country team raced to a sixth-place finish at the Falcon Classic in Montevallo. The Warhawks finished just five points out of fifth place and only eight points behind the fourth-place team.
NOTES
• A total of 16 teams competed in the meet, four Division I institutions and 12 non-DI schools.
• 39 runners competed in the DI division while 109 ran in the non-DI division
• Mississippi State's Shannon Fair was the fastest runner in the field, recording a time of 21:31.44. Fair finished 24 seconds faster than the second-place runner.
INDIVIDUAL FINISHES
• Junior
Benisse Inamahoro was the first to finish for AUM, recording a time of 24:38.58 to finish 11th in the field of 109 runners. The time was good for the sixth-fastest 6K time in school history.
• Freshman
Victoria McCurry was the second Warhawk to finish, recording a time of 26:41.94 and finishing 31st.
• Senior
Katelynn Burns finished 32nd overall with a time of 26:44.62.
• Junior
Ansley Story placed 37th posting a time of 26:54.00
• Junior
Tanishya Jones was the next Warhawk to finish with a time of 27:37.16, placing 52nd overall.
• Seniors
Kelly Dawson (27:53.37) and
Brooke Schultz (29:13.49) rounded out the scoring for the Warhawks, finishing 58th and 73rd, respectively.
TEAM FINISHES
• Montevallo earned the team title with just 40 points as a team. The Falcons' runners averaged a time of 24:08.68.
• AUM finished sixth, only nine five points behind Valdosta State and just eight points behind Birmingham-Southern. The Warhawks finished ahead of Piedmont, Covenant, Marion Military Institute, Tuskegee, Huntingdon and Miles.

"It was great to see the women compete so well today," graduate assistant coach
Lauren Etheridge said. "They had a hard week of training, but they had a strong performance despite that. Benisse really excelled for us and pushed the team to a solid finish."

The Warhawks will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 23 when they travel to Asheville, N.C. to compete in the Asheville CC Challenge.
