Volleyball Falls To West Florida In Straight Sets

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Auburn Montgomery volleyball team took on West Florida in a Gulf South Conference match on Saturday afternoon, falling to the host 3-0 (25-11, 25-11, 25-9).
 
NOTES
• AUM falls to 7-9 on the season, 1-5 in league play.
• West Florida improves to 12-4 on the season with a 4-0 mark in GSC action.
• The Argos extend their winning streak against GSC teams in the UWF Fieldhouse during the regular season to 63.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Junior setter Carly Smart finished the contest with 15 assists and a team-high two blocks.
• Junior middle blocker Brianna Garvin led the attack with five kills while assisting on one block.
• Sophomore defensive specialist Haley Toler anchored the defense with nine digs, followed by freshman outside hitter Skylar Coppinger who chipped in six.
• For the Argos, Nadine Williams and Rachel Neblett posted 11 kills with Neblet adding six blocks while Monique StCry dished out 20 assists and Logan Keal logged 11 digs.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• West Florida used a pair of 4-0 runs in the early phase of the opening set to create a double-digit lead at 15-5 and kept the deficit above nine for the remainder of the frame.
• The Argos carried the momentum from the first set into the second, scoring 12 of the opening 14 points to create an early double-digit advantage at 12-2. West Florida held AUM to a match-low -.091 hitting percentage in the stanza to keep the Warhawks out of the frame.
• The hosts boasted a match-high 19 kills on a day-best .562 hitting percentage to complete the sweep. UWF opened the frame with 11-straight points and maintained a double-digit lead for the rest of the finale.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM finished the match with 19 kills on a .013 hitting percentage versus 46 on a .481 clip for West Florida.
• West Florida held a 36-21 advantage in digs
• The Argos won the battle at the net with seven blocks with the Warhawks posting two.
• UWF served seven aces while AUM had one.
 
UP NEXT
AUM hosts a tri-match on Friday, Oct. 6, taking on Alabama Huntsville in a GSC bout at 4 p.m. with a match against Spring Hill slated for 8 p.m.
