Men’s Basketball Tops Century Mark But Falls At West Georgia, 103-100

CARROLLTON, Ga. – Senior guard Reagan Eubanks scored a season-high 24 points while fellow guard Desmond DeRamus added 20 of his own, but West Georgia outlasted Auburn Montgomery for a 103-100 victory in Gulf South Conference men's basketball play on Tuesday evening on the campus of the Wolves.
 
NOTES
• AUM falls to 6-8 on the year with a 2-5 mark in GSC play.
• UWG improves to 7-7 overall and 2-5 in league action.
• The game marked the second time this season that the Warhawks have reached the century mark, having defeated Embry-Riddle 101-92 on Nov. 24.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Eubanks scored 24 with a season-high eight rebounds in 36 minutes of play.
• DeRamus tallied 20 points, eight boards and four assists for AUM.
• Jarett Croff finished one rebound away from a double-double, scoring 18 with nine boards.
• UWG's Paul Turner scored a game-high 32 points with seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block.
• Marquill Smith tallied 25 points, connecting on 6-11 field goals and 12-13 free throws.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
• UWG jumped out to an early lead before DeRamus gave AUM its first lead with 11:43 to play in the first, hitting a 3-pointer to put the Warhawks up 23-22.
• The two teams then battled to a 41-41 tie with 4:07 to play, before the Wolves finished the frame on a 12-7 run to take a 53-48 lead into the break.
• Smith hit a 3-pointer to start the second half for the Wolves to give them a 56-48 lead, eventually going up by as much as 13 at the 7:45 mark (83-70).
• However, the Warhawks would not go away quietly, clawing their way back to take a 98-97 lead on a Eubanks trey with 1:39 to play.
• A Turner jumper would give the Wolves the lead once again with 1:15 to go, before DeRamus put the Warhawks back up 100-99 with :55 seconds on the clock.
• Turner hit another jumper to retake the lead again for the Wolves at 101-100 with :38 to play, followed by a pair of free throws after an AUM miss on the other end to earn the 103-100 victory.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
• AUM outrebounded UWG 43-33.
• The Warhawks' bench outscored the Wolves 41-8.
• AUM outscored the Wolves 48-28 in the paint.
• UWG converted 32-41 free throws while the Warhawks converted 18-20.
 
UP NEXT
The Warhawks will play at home for the first time in 2018 on Saturday, Jan. 13, when they host Alabama Huntsville in a 4 p.m. contest at the AUM Gymnasium.
