Late Goals Loom Large for Men’s Soccer in 3-1 Setback at Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – A pair of goals in the final 10 minutes of play by the University of Montevallo proved to the difference maker in the Auburn Montgomery men's soccer team's 3-1 loss to the Falcons in Gulf South Conference action on Sunday, Oct. 14.

With the loss, AUM's record drops to 2-10-1 on the season, and 1-5-1 in GSC play.

Standout Performers
- Billy Murphy netted his third goal of the season for AUM in the contest, while Caleb Fargarson recorded his first assist of the season.
- Phillip Spickenbaum took a team-high four shots in the contest, while also accounting for a team-best three shots on goal.

How it Happened
- The Falcons drew first blood in the match, with a goal in the 9th minute to take the early 1-0 lead.
- The Warhawks saw a chance for a possible rebuttal in the 13th minute, as a flush strike off the foot of Meyerhoff from the edge of the box looked promising, but would be knocked away by a diving Montevallo keeper.
- After taking a 1-1 score into the break, Murphy would deliver the equalizer in the 63rd minute, with a successful header from inside the box. Fargarson's high-arching service helped set up the score.
- Brunelle and Alexis Arriaga both saw go-ahead goal opportunities go for not late in the game, as Brunelle's sliding attack in front of the goal in the 67th minute went wide, and Arriaga's shot from inside the box on a good run in the 76th minute sailed high.
- The Falcons would go on to add a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes of play, giving way to the 3-1 final score.

Quoting the Coach
"Today, we were just the second best team on the field in every phase of the game," Head Coach Wulf Koch said. "We felt sorry for ourselves at times, and that will never get it done for you."
