Meyerhoff’s Golden Goal Gives Men’s Soccer 2-1 Double OT Victory over Delta State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Freshman midfielder Raphael Meyerhoff booted in the game-winning goal for the Auburn Montgomery men's soccer team in double overtime, capping off a dramatic 2-1 victory over Gulf South Conference foe Delta State on Friday, Oct 19.
 
Notes
- With the win, AUM's record improves to 3-10-1 overall, and 2-5-1 in GSC play.
- The match accounted for the Warhawks fourth overtime game of the 2018 season, of which they hold a record of 2-1-1 in those games. 
 
Standout Performers
- Both Meyerhoff and Alexis Arriaga tallied goals for AUM on the night, with Arriaga accounting for a team-high four shots taken and Meyerhoff recording two shots on goal.
- Alexander Wagner and Billy Murphy both recorded an assist for AUM.
- Phillip Spickenbaum took a team-high four shots, while also registering a team-high three shots on goal and one assist.
 
How it Happened
- Neither team was able to crack the scoreboard in the first period, as defense prevailed through the first 45 minutes of play.
- The Warhawks broke the scoreless tie in the 59th minute, courtesy of Arriaga's second goal of the year. Wagner helped set up the score.
- Delta State would go on to tie the match up in the 73rd minute off of a corner kick, which would ultimately send the contest in the overtime
- Meyerhoff's game winner, a solid strike from about 30 yards out that found its way into the corner of the net, served as his first collegiate goal.

"I can't really describe it, Phillip played the ball and I just took a touch and shot it," Meyerhoff said post game about his game-winning goal.  "It's a really good win, but we've got to keep working on all phases of the game to keep getting better, that's what it is going to take from here on out."
