Warhawks Battle West Alabama to 1-1 Draw

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery men's soccer team picked up a hard-fought point in a 1-1 draw against the 2017 GSC champion West Alabama Tigers on Friday, Oct. 7.

Notes
- With the draw, AUM's record moves to 2-8-1 overall, and 1-3-1 versus GSC opponents.
- The draw marks for the Warhawks first of the 2018 season.
- Friday evening marked for the Warhawks third double-overtime match of the 2018 season, in which the Warhawks hold a record of 1-1-1.

Standout Performers
- Asher Gipner was responsible for AUM's lone goal on the night. Gipner would finish with two shots in the game.
- Tate Dean recorded a team-high three shots on goal in the game.
- Phillip Spickenbaum totaled a team-high three shots in the contest,  while Austin Sun Chee Fore took two shots on the night, with one on frame.
- In goal, freshman keeper Alexander Kraus went 9-10 on save opportunities, with several big stops down the stretch for the Warhawks.

How it Happened
- It was the Warhawks that struck first in the contest on Gipner's goal from inside the box in the 17th minute, in which he was able to fire off a shot among a slew of West Alabama defenders.
- West Alabama would provide the lone scoring action in period number two, with the equalizing goal in the 70th minute that would eventually force overtime.
- Two 10-minute overtime periods saw neither team able to capitalize, as the AUM defense was able to fend off several scoring attempts from the Tigers late, including a shot by UWA from inside box in the 107th that Kraus was able to corral and keep the match tied.

Quoting the Coach
"Tonight's result can be best described as a manifestation of our progress in the GSC," Head Coach Wulf Koch said. "We've been very close in virtually all of our matches against the tougher opponents in this league this year, but to be able to get a point on the road against the defending champs is a big step in the right direction."

Inside the Boxscore
- The Warhawks took 13 shots in the match, with six of those coming on frame.
- AUM put up their highest shot total of the game in period number two with seven, while adding one in the first overtime period and two in the second.
- Eight different Warhawks played in all 110 minutes of action on the night, with Sun Chee Fore and Billy Murphy both seeing 90-plus minutes of work.

Up Next
- The Warhawks face a quick turnaround, as they take on UAH on Sunday, Oct. 7 in GSC action. Kickoff from Huntsville, Ala. is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
