Nyah Whittlesey hit a career-high 10 kills while senior middle blocker
Brianna Garvin tallied a match-high 11 kills, but Auburn Montgomery fell to non-conference foe Emmanuel College on Tuesday evening, 3-1, in volleyball action on the campus of the Warhawks.
NOTES
• AUM falls to 9-12 on the season with a 3-6 mark at home.
• EC is now 12-8 on the year and 4-3 in road matches.
• The Lions won 25-17, 20-25, 25-12, 25-15.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Senior middle blocker
Brianna Garvin tallied a match-high 11 kills for the Orange & Black, also posting four blocks (three solo) in the contest.
• Freshman outside hitter
Nyah Whittlesey recorded a career-high 10 kills while hitting for a career-best .450 attack percentage.
• Freshman libero
Emily Ward recorded a career-best 17 digs in the match.
• Senior setter
Carly Smart tallied 29 assists, 10 digs and seven kills for AUM.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first set saw the Lions jump out to an 8-3 lead before a service error gave AUM the point. The Warhawks then went on a 6-4 run to cut the EC advantage to 12-10, pulling to within two points on a Garvin solo block. However, the Lions would push its advantage throughout the rest of the frame, finishing the set on a 13-5 run to take a 25-17 victory.
• The two teams battled to an 8-8 tie before AUM went on a 6-0 run to take a 14-8 lead. After trading points back and four the Warhawks were able to pull ahead, eventually going up 21-14 on a
Tynesha McWilliams kill. AUM got to set point at 24-16 before EC would rally for four points, cutting the advantage to 24-20. However, a kill by Whittlesey pushed AUM to a 25-20 victory in the second set to tie the match at 1-1.
• The third set saw the teams trade points to start the frame at 4-4 before the Lions went on a 9-1 run to take a 13-5 advantage. AUM was able to break serve on a
Keara Scott kill and then cut the lead to six on a kill by Smart. EC would rally for six straight points to take a 19-7 lead before
Jaylyn Felder broke the rally with a kill. The Warhawks tried to come back but the deficit was too much to overcome, as Emmanuel took the frame 25-12.
• The fourth set was close early as the Lions and Warhawks fought to a 6-6 tie. The Lions' offense would then get on track, going on a 13-3 run to go up 19-9. Each team would score six points the rest of the way, with Emmanuel taking the set 25-15 and the match 3-1.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
• The match featured 14 tie scores and seven lead changes.
• AUM tallied 7.0 blocks while EC tallied 3.0.
• The Lions recorded 13 service aces while AUM recorded none.
• The Warhawks posted 40 kills while EC posted 45.
UP NEXT
The Warhawks will hit the road to take on Gulf South Conference opponents Christian Brothers and Union University this Friday and Saturday, respectively. AUM will play the Buccaneers at 6 p.m. on Friday before playing the Bulldogs at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
