Women’s Basketball to Host #16 North Georgia Sunday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery women's basketball team will play host to the number-16 ranked Nighthawks of the University of North Georgia on Sunday, Nov. 25 from the AUM Gymnasium.

About the Warhawks
AUM (0-4) dropped a 49-41 decision at Tuskegee University on Tuesday, Nov. 20 in their most recent contest. The Warhawks outscored the Golden Tigers in the second half 26-22, while also holding them to just 28 percent shooting in quarters three and four, but saw their comeback effort come up just short in the setback to their regional rival. 
 
Through four contests, freshman guard Jordan Brewster leads the AUM offense, and ranks among the top 10 players in the Gulf South Conference, with a 15.3 points per game scoring average. The Lenoir City, Tenn. native leads the GSC with 16 three-pointers made on the year, while also leading the conference with an average of four treys per contest. 
 
Senior forward Evelina Avleeva leads AUM in the rebounding department, while ranking third in the GSC, with an average of 8.8 boards per game on the year. Avleeva ranks among the top five players in the conference with 27 defensive rebounds, while her 10 steals also rank among the top individuals in the GSC.
 
The Warhawks currently lead the Gulf South in blocked shots, with 21 though four contests. Aaliyah Milord's five blocks on the year ranks tied for second in the conference, while Kendra Boone, Victoria Morales and Avleeva ranks amongst the top 10 in the Gulf South with four blocks apiece.
 
Sunday's contest against North Georgia will serve as the 38th meeting between the two schools in women's basketball, a rivalry that dates back to the Warhawks inaugural season in 1986-87. AUM holds an advantage of 20-17 over the Nighthawks in their series history. 
 
About the Nighthawks
North Georgia (3-1) fell 91-78 to the number-three ranked Lady Eagles of Carson Newman University on Saturday, Nov. 17 their last time out. 
 
The Nighthawks checked in at number 16 in the most recent Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) rankings, while coming in at number 17 in the latest D2SIDA national rankings. 

Through four games, North Georgia is averaging 75.8 points per contest, while posting a field goal percentage of 41.8 percent. 
 
Four players for the Nighthawks are currently averaging in double figures, with Julianne Sutton leading the way with a 17.8 points per game average. Tamera Thorpe leads North Georgia with an 8.8 rebounds per game average, while Abbie Franklin and Kara Groover pace the Nighthawks with 3.8 assists per game.
