Men’s Hoops Wins Its Third Straight With 72-58 Victory Over Spring Hill

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Playing in their first home game of the 2018-19 the Auburn Montgomery men's basketball defeated Spring Hill College Sunday afternoon, earning a 72-58 victory over the Badgers at the AUM Gymnasium.
 
NOTES
• AUM improves to 4-2 on the season while the Badgers fall to 2-4.
• The Warhawks are now 27-21 against SHC.
• The two teams will meet again on Tuesday, Dec. 11 on the campus of the Badgers.
• This was the second meeting between the two teams where both were NCAA Division II members.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Junior guard Tre Hansbrough led the way for the Warhawks, tallying 17 points and three assists in 24 minutes of action.
• Junior guard Carlos Bell was second on the team in scoring with 15 while pulling down seven rebounds and recording an assist, a block and a steal.
• Junior center Aaron Reddick tallied 11 points and eight rebounds, also adding two blocks, two assists and a steal.
• Junior forward Mikel Davis posted a season-high 12 rebounds (eight defensive) to go along with eight points, two steals and an assist.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first half saw AUM jump out to a 7-2 lead on a Bell 3-pointer with 16:21 to go, before a 9-3 run over the next three minutes by the Badgers gave the visitors an 11-10 advantage. The Warhawks responded with a 14-3 run of their own, taking a 24-13 lead with 10:51 left in the half when Darrion Taylor picked the pocket of a Badger then finished the fast break with a layup to give AUM an 11-point lead.
• The next five minutes saw the two teams trade buckets, with AUM eventually pushing its led to 37-21 on a Devorious Brown layup at the 4:47 mark. Neither team could do much over the final four minutes, as the Orange & Black took a 41-26 lead into the break.
• The first six minutes of the second half saw the two teams trade points back and forth once again, with AUM going up 50-33 on a Stanley Davis trey at the 14:16 mark. However, SHC would not go away quietly. The Badgers chipped away at the Warhawks' advantage over the next five minutes, pulling to within six points at 52-46 on a pair of free throws with 9:59 to play.
• Two minutes later SHC was within 55-51 on a David Daniels layup to cut the visitors' deficit to four points with 7:10 on the clock. However, the Warhawks were able to regroup and finish the contest on a 17-7 run to close out the contest and earn the 72-58 victory.

UP NEXT
The Warhawks open GSC play on Thursday when they host league foe Lee University at the AUM Gymnasium. The game is part of a doubleheader with the two women's programs, and is set to begin at 6 p.m. with the men's teams beginning at 8 p.m.
