Bell Goes For 23 But Warhawks Fall At Union

JACKSON, Tenn. – Junior guard Carlos Bell tallied 23 points against Gulf South Conference foe Union University on Thursday evening but the home-standing Bulldogs were able to earn a 95-74 victory over Auburn Montgomery in men's basketball play.
 
NOTES
• AUM falls to 4-7 on the season overall and 0-3 in GSC play.
• Union improves to 7-3 on the year and 2-1 in league games.
• The Warhawks have now dropped five games in a row.
• The Bulldogs are now 5-1 lifetime against the Orange & Black.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Bell's 23 points are the second most in his career at AUM. He tallied a career-high 25 points against Saint Leo on Nov. 16. Bell also had five rebounds in the contest.
• Junior forward Mikel Davis tallied 10 points and nine rebounds for the Warhawks.
• Junior center/forward Aaron Reddick had nine points and nine rebounds.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The two teams battled to a 10-10 tie with 15:07 to go in the first, with Bell tying the contest on a pair of free throws. The next five minutes saw the Bulldogs go on a 13-4 run to go up 23-14 with 10:52 to play.
• Union would push its lead to as much as 13 over the next five minutes, before another pair of free throws by Tre Hansbrough would cut the Warhawks' deficit to nine at 37-28, but the Bulldogs would close out the half on a 15-to-4 run to take a 52-32 lead into the half.
• Once again each team would score 10 points apiece to start the half, with Union holding a 62-42 lead with 14:35 left on the clock. The Bulldogs would push its advantage to as much as 25 points over the next ten minutes, before Darryl Jones cut the AUM deficit to 77-59 with 6:15 to go.  
• Union would be able to keep the Warhawks at arms length the rest of the way, eventually earning the 95-74 victory.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
• The Bulldogs shot 53.6 percent from the floor while AUM shot 37.8 percent.
• AUM won the rebounding battle, 37-35.
• Union converted 12-of-24 3-point field goals while the Warhawks converted 7-of-27.
 
UP NEXT
The Warhawks will travel to Memphis, Tenn., for their next contest, taking on Christian Brothers University on Saturday beginning at 3 p.m.
