Men’s Tennis Drops Match To Jackson State, 4-3

JACKSON, Miss. – The Auburn Montgomery men's tennis squad dropped a 4-3 decision to NCAA Division I member Jackson State University on Monday afternoon as the Tigers picked up their first victory of the season.
 
MATCH NOTES
• AUM falls to 1-1 on the season while JSU improves to 1-7.
• The match was originally scheduled for Friday, Feb. 9, but was moved to today due to inclement weather.
 
QUOTING THE COACH
"The men, once again, fought through adversity and came up a little bit short," said AUM head coach Yair Banuelos. "We started a little slow in doubles then bounced back in singles with three straight wins. We got too tight at the end but I believe this match will make us mentally tougher in the long run."
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• No. 1 Doubles – Alvaro Terron and Francisco Jimenez fell to Andrey Alawi and Stylianos Gkontsaris, 6-4.
• No. 2 Doubles – Santiago Veglia and Eban Straker-Meads defeated Vishu Prasad and Joan Sanson, 6-1.
• No. 3 Doubles – JSU's Federico Mendieta and Fritz Jacobs win by default.
• No. 1 Singles – Terron defeated Sanson, 6-1, 6-1.
• No. 2 Singles – Straker-Meads defeated Alawi, 6-3, 6-1
• No. 3 Singles – Jimenez defeated Jacobs, 6-1, 6-3.
• No. 4 Singles – Veglia fell to Stylianos, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0
• No. 5 Singles – Giovanni Bellio fell to Mendieta, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4.
• No. 6 Singles – Prasad wins by default.
 
ORDER OF FINISH
• Doubles – 3, 2, 1
• Singles – 1, 2, 3, 5, 4
 
UP NEXT
The Warhawks will play Gulf South Conference foe Shorter University on Wednesday at home at the AUM Tennis Complex beginning at 1 p.m.
