MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery baseball team looked poised to win the program's first Gulf South Conference victory on Friday evening, going into the eighth with a 3-1 lead over the visiting University of Alabama in Huntsville, but three runs for the Chargers over the final two innings spoiled the Warhawks' inaugural GSC contest with a 4-3 final score.
NOTES
• AUM falls to 6-4 overall, 0-1 in Gulf South Conference action.
• Alabama Huntsville improves to 4-3, 1-0 in GSC play.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Junior second baseman
Jonathan Brandt went 2-3 with his first home run as a Warhawk on a solo shot and a walk.
• Senior first baseman
Curtiss Johnson went 3-4 with two runs scored.
• Senior third baseman
Parker Moman went 2-4 with a pair of RBI.
• On the mound, sophomore right-handed pitcher
Hank Scott got the start, logging 7.1 innings with three runs allowed off 10 hits and five strikeouts.
• Junior southpaw
Ryan Burkett got the loss, allowing the go-ahead run to score.
• For UAH, Nolan Ramsey and Tyler McCown went 3-5 with Ramsey hitting a home run while Brooks Brophy help the Warhawks without a hit over the final two innings to get the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Back-to-back doubles for the Chargers from Ben Rhodes and McCown to start the game quickly put the visitors up 1-0.
• AUM knotted up the score in the bottom of the second, using a two-out single from Moman to send Johnson home from second.
• The Warhwaks took the lead in the bottom of the third, using a two-out solo home run by Brandt to make it 2-1
• AUM loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth off back-to-back singles from Johnson and Flowers followed by a walk for junior left fielder
Matthew Zielonko, with Moman singling to the shortstop to score Johnson and make it 3-1.
• UAH began the eighth with a solo home run by Ramsey, followed by a single from Jack Stamper who later scored the equalizer off a one-out single from Jay Copeland.
• In the ninth, the Chargers scored the game-winning run off a two-out single from Ramsey which scored McCown.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM tallied nine hits, while Alabama Huntsville recorded 11.
• The Warhawks left six runners on base, UAH stranded 10/
• AUM recorded the lone error in the contest.

AUM and UAH conclude the three-game Gulf South Conference series on Saturday, Feb. 24 in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
