Baseball Sweeps Talladega College In Midweek Doubleheader

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery baseball team hosted Talladega College in a midweek doubleheader on Wednesday evening, besting the visiting Tornadoes by scores of 3-2 and 5-3 for the twinbill sweep.
 
NOTES
• AUM improves to 13-17 overall.
• Talladega College falls to 17-13.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS (GAME 1)
• Senior second baseman Nathan Langley went 2-3 at the plate with a home run and two RBI.
• Junior shortstop Jonathan Brandt went 2-3.
• Senior catcher Parker Moman went 0-1 with a RBI.
• Junior right fielder Aaron Hill went 1-2 with a run scored.
• Junior right-handed pitcher Harrison Morris logged a personal-best 4.0 innings in the start, allowing two runs with one earned.
• Freshman righty Sam Steigert tossed two scoreless innings to get his third save of the campaign.
• For Talladega College, Wilkin Louis went 2-4 with a run scored while Manuel Caballero allowed three runs off six hits in a complete game.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
• Talladega College took the early 1-0 lead in the top of the second, leading off the frame with with a single from Emillo Martinez and later scoring on a passed ball.
• With two outs in the top of the third, Talladega College got runners on the corners off back-to-back singles with Wilkin Louis going home on a stolen base attempt by Hamlet Flores to create a 2-0 score.
• AUM cut into the separation in the bottom of the fourth, getting Nix on base via a hit by pitch a sacrifice fly from Moman sending him him to make it 2-1.
• The Warhawks flipped the one-run advantage in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run homer from Langley, scoring the senior and Hill who led off the inning with a single to take a 3-2 lead.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (GAME 1)
• AUM tallied six hits while Talladega had 10.
• The Warhawks left five runners on base, TC stranded eight.
• Neither side had an error
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS (GAME 2)
• Senior center fielder Donovan Chandler went 1-3 with two RBI, a run scored, one stolen base and walk.
• Moman went 1-3 with two RBI.
• Senior left fielder Tanner Russell went 1-3 with a run scored.
• Hill went 1-3 with a run scored and two stolen bases.
• Junior righty Josh Flowers earned his first victory on the mound as a Warhawk after tossing one scoreless inning.
• Redshirt sophomore Hank Scott earned his first save of the campaign, holding the Tornadoes off the scoreboard in the final inning.
• For Talladega, Martinez went 3-4 with a RBI.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)
• TC got on the scoreboard in the top of the first, using back-to-back singles from Flores and Martinez plus a fielding error by AUM to take a 1-0 lead.
• Leading off the bottom of the third with a base on balls, a pair of fielding errors by the Tornadoes allowed Chandler to score. The Warhawks added two more runs in the stanza with a two-out single from Moman platting Russell and senior first baseman Curtiss Johnson to create a 3-1 advantage.
• AUM added insurance runs to their lead in the bottom of the fourth, using a one-out single from Chandler to score Hill and Langley, making it 5-1.
• Talladega cut into the lead in the top of the sixth of a two-out single from Louis, sending Bryan Serra and Ryan Ramires home to make it 5-3.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (GAME 2)
• AUM tallied four hits while Talladega recorded nine.
• The Warhawks left seven runners on base, TC stranded 10.
• AUM recorded two errors, the visitors had six.
 
UP NEXT
The baseball team hits the road to begin a three-game Gulf South Conference series at Montevallo on Friday, March 30 with first pitch slated for 6 p.m.
