MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery baseball team began a three-game Gulf South Conference series at Montevallo on Friday evening, falling to the host Falcons 10-3.
NOTES
• AUM falls to 13-18 overall, 4-12 in Gulf South Conference play.
• Montevallo improves to 23-11, 10-6 in GSC action.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Senior catcher
Parker Moman went 2-4 with a RBI.
• Junior shortstop
Jonathan Brandt went 2-4 with a walk.
• Junior righty
Josh Flowers logged a personal-best 4.0 innings on the mound with two runs allowed off three hits with a career-high five strikeouts.
• For Montevallo, Jared Nixon went 3-4 with two RBI and one run scored while Justin Whitley (5-2) got the win after tossing 7.0 scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Starting off the contest with back-to-back walks, AUM took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first after a throwing error by Montevallo allowed senior second baseman
Nathan Langley and senior center fielder
Donovan Chandler to score.
• Montevallo responded in the bottom half of the inning with RBI singles from Caled Ledbetter and Chad Wagner to score Collin Dupree and Jason Cyar while an AUM fielding error platted a third run, giving the host a 3-2 edge.
• Montevallo scored five runs in the fourth, creating an 8-2 score.
• AUM cut into the deficit in the top of the eighth, leading off with a single from senior first baseman
Curtiss Johnson and later scoring him on a single from Moman to make it 8-3.
• Leading off the bottom of the eight with back-to-back doubles, a single from Nixon platted both Falcons to make it 10-3.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM tallied eight hits while Montevallo had 15.
• The Warhawks left 11 runners on base, Montevallo stranded four.
• Both sides had one error.
