COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Auburn Montgomery baseball team concluded a four-game road swing on Wednesday afternoon at Columbus State, falling to the host Cougars 7-0 in a non-conference contest.
NOTES
• AUM falls to 6-10 overall.
• Columbus State improves to 15-2.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Redshirt sophomore first baseman
Hayden Friesen went 1-2 at the plate.
• Senior shortstop
Nathan Langley and senior center fielder
Donovan Chandler each went 1-4.
• Junior first baseman/right fielder
Aaron Hill went 1-1 in stolen bases.
• Redshirt junior right-handed pitcher
Connor Smith got the start on the mound, allowing three runs off six hits in 3.2 innings with a strikeout in the loss.
• For Columbus State, Frank Wager went 3-5 with two RBI and a run scored while Grant Berry went 2-3 with a home run and two RBI. Tyler Cadenhead got the start, holding the Warhawks to two hits over 7.0 innings with seven strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Columbus State took the lead in the bottom of the second, as a two-out solo home run from Berry gave the hosts a 1-0 advantage.
• CSU added a pair of runs to their lead in the bottom of the third, using back-to-back RBI singles from Wager and Brooks to plate Garrett Kirkwood and Mason McClellan to extend the separation to 3-0.
• The Cougars hit back-to-back RBI singles again in the bottom of the fifth with Berry and Austin Pharr sending Wager and Robert Brooks home to make it 5-0.
• A sacrifice fly and single in back-to-back at bats from McClellan and Wager scored Justin Evans and Kirkwood, who led off the bottom of the sixth with back-to-back singles, and made it 7-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM tallied three hits while Columbus State had 13.
• The Warhawks left four runners on base, CSU stranded 10.
• AUM recorded two errors, the hosts committed one.
