Late Runs Lift Baseball Past Albany State 4-2

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery baseball team hosted Albany State on Wednesday afternoon, besting the visiting Golden Rams 4-2.
 
NOTES
• AUM improves to 16-22 overall.
• Albany State falls to 16-15.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Senior shortstop/pitcher Nathan Langley went 2-4 at the plate with a double and RBI while earning his second save of the campaign after coming in and tossing a scoreless ninth inning.
• Junior outfielder Matthew Zielonko went 2-4 with a double and two RBI
• Redshirt sophomore designated hitter Hayden Friesen went 2-3 with a run scored.
• Sophomore catcher Kyle Khoury went 2-3 at the plate.
• Junior Aaron Hill recorded a RBI in the batter's box while earning his first win on the mound after holding Albany State scoreless over 1.1 innings.
• For Albany State, Riliani Famillia went 2-4 with a RBI.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Leading off the bottom of the third with a walk, senior center fielder Donovan Chandler touched home plate for the first run of the contest off a double from Langley.  
• AUM loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth off three-consecutive singles to begin the stanza from Friesen, Khoury and Zielonko with a RBI by Hill sending Friesen home to make it 2-0.
• Albany State knotted up the score in the top of the fifth, leading off with a double from Quan Dodson-Williams before a two-out single from Jonathan Cirula platted the Golden Rams for their first run of the contest. Back-to-back singles for the ensuing two batters sent Trey McMillan home to even the score at 2-all.
• AUM reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the eight, getting a pair of runners on base to start the frame via a walk and hit by pitch before a double from Zielonko sent junior second baseman Harrison Morris and senior first baseman Curtiss Johnson home to create a 4-2 advantage.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM tallied nine hits while Albany State had eight.
• The Warhawks left nine runners on base, ASU stranded 11.
• Albany State recorded the lone error.
 
UP NEXT
The Warhawks hit the road to take on nationally-ranked West Florida in a three-game Gulf South Conference series, starting on Friday, April 13 in a doubleheader with first pitch slated for 3 p.m.
