Softball Takes On Albany State On Wednesday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery softball team will play its final non-conference series of the season on Wednesday, taking on Albany State in a doubleheader set for 2 p.m. on the campus of the Golden Rams.

About the Warhawks
AUM is 23-14 on the season with a 14-13 record in the Gulf South Conference. AUM is 6-6 in road games and are 9-1 in non-conference matchups. The Warhawks' lone loss against a non-conference foe came on opening day, when AUM fell to then #7 North Georgia 5-4 in eight innings.
 
The Warhawks are coming off of a 2-1 series setback to #17 West Florida this past weekend, dropping a doubleheader on Sunday before earning a 6-0 victory on Monday to salvage the series. Sophomore Chanel Newcomer recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts against the Argonauts in game three as AUM earned its first victory over a Top-25 team this season.
 
Four Warhawks are batting over .300 on the season, with senior outfielder Kalee Sparks leading the way with a mark of .385. Sparks leads the team in hits (45), runs batted in (24) and is tied for the team lead in doubles with 13. Sophomore utility player Jaycie Walker leads the team in home runs with five and is tied with Sparks for the team lead in doubles with 13.
 
Newcomer leads the team in innings pitched (109.2) and strikeouts (85) and is second on the team in earned run average (1.98). Freshman Michaelyn Foster leads the team in ERA with a mark of 1.88 and is 6-2 on the season.
 
About the Golden Rams
ASU is 21-19 on the season with a 16-1 mark in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Senior Brianna Murillo leads the team in batting average, hitting .462 the season. Murillo leads the team in hits (48), RBI (39) and is second on the team in home runs (8). Six other Rams are batting over .300 with Lavette Tucker (.342) leading the team in home runs with nine.
 
Aryn McGowan leads the team in strikeouts with 90 and has an ERA of 6.08. McGowan is 10-9 on the season and opponents are batting .293 against her.
 
Up Next
The Warhawks will host their final series of the season beginning on Saturday when they welcome GSC foe Christian Brothers to the AUM Softball Complex for a three game series. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. with Sunday's contest also starting at 1 p.m.
