MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Playing at the AUM Baseball Complex for the final time, senior center fielder
Donovan Chandler made his last at bat count as he drove in fellow senior
Forrest Smith in the bottom of the seventh for a 1-0 walk-off victory over Christian Brothers in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon after besting the Bucs 4-2 in the opening contest of the twinbill to complete the Auburn Montgomery baseball team's first Gulf South Conference series sweep in program history.
NOTES
• AUM improves to 20-26 overall, 9-18 in Gulf South Conference play.
• Christian Brothers falls to 10-35, 4-23 in GSC action.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS (GAME 1)
• Junior third baseman
Jonathan Brandt went 2-4 with a home run and two RBI.,
• Senior shortstop
Nathan Langley went 2-4 with one RBI.
• Redshirt junior righty
Connor Smith got the start, holding CBU scoreless over 5.1 innings.
• Redshirt sophomore right-handed pitcher
Hank Scott earned the victory on the mound after tossing 3.2 innings with two runs allowed off three hits.
• For Christian Brothers, Jared Cramer went 2-4 with a run scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
• Leading off the bottom of the fifth with a hit by pitch, junior right fielder Hill scored the first run of the contest off a single from Langley.
• A solo home run for Brandt in the bottom of the sixth extended the separation to 2-0.
• CBU evened the score in the top of the eighth, scoring their first run of the afternoon off an AUM throwing error before a sacrifice fly by Brandon Dodd knotted the score at 2-all.
• AUM responded in the bottom of the eighth, getting sophomore outfielder
Matthew Zielonko on base via a leadoff single before a single from Brandt scored the Warhawk with a single from redshirt sophomore designated hitter
Hayden Friesen scoring Smith to create a 4-2 score.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (GAME 1)
• AUM posted seven hits, Christian Brothers had eight.
• AUM left eight runners on base, the Bucs stranded nine.
• AUM recorded two errors CBU had one.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS (GAME 2)
• Chandler went 1-4 with a RBI.
• Langley tossed his second complete game of the season, holding CBU to three hits and no runs while striking out five.
• For Christian Brothers, Will Rutledge tossed a complete game with one run allowed.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)
• Senior first baseman
Curtiss Johnson began the bottom of the seventh with a double, with Smith coming in to pinch run before back-to-back walks for senior catcher
Parker Moman and junior second baseman
Harrison Morris loaded the bases and advanced Smith into position for Chandler's walk-off shot.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (GAME 2)
• AUM posted five hits, Christian Brothers had three.
• AUM left eight runners on base, the Bucs stranded three
• Neither side had an error.
