CARROLLTON, Ga. – Nathan Langley and
Matthew Zielonko each had three hits, but the Auburn Montgomery baseball team dropped the series opener to West Georgia, 6-2, Friday.
NOTES
• AUM fell to 20-28 on the year and 9-19 in Gulf South Conference play.
• The Wolves improved to 29-16 overall and 15-13 in league games.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Zielonko finished 3-for-4 with a run scored, run batted in and a double.
• Langley was 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and a run scored. Langley enters the final day of the year with a .390 batting average and will look to become the first AUM player to hit .400 in a season since Chad Mansmann hit .411 in 2013.

Curtiss Johnson drove in a run with his only hit in four at bats.
•
Danny Caldwell threw three scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit in the outing.
• Tyler Garner (6-1) tossed six innings, allowing seven hits and two runs to earn the victory for the Wolves.
• Gabriel Wurtz finished 2-for-2 with a double, home run, two RBIs and two walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Wolves took a 1-0 lead after the first inning, when Christopher Michaels scored on a throwing error by AUM starter
Connor Smith (1-3). Michaels led off the bottom of the first inning with a triple.
• UWG extended the lead to 2-0 on a solo home run by Wurtz to lead off the second, before adding a third run on a RBI triple by Brian Dansereau.
• Wurtz collected another run batted in with a double in the third inning and later came around to score on an error by second baseman
Harrison Morris, giving the Wolves a 5-0 advantage.
• AUM got on the board with a pair of runs in the fourth inning, both of which scored on two-out hits. Langley started the rally with a two-out single and scored on a Zielonko double. Johnson followed with a single to left field, allowing Zielonko to score.
• The Wolves provided the final margin on a sacrifice fly by Ben Utley in the sixth inning.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Warhawks tallied nine hits, compared to just eight by West Georgia.
• The Wolves stranded 10 runners on base, while AUM left six.
• AUM committed all four errors in the contest.
UP NEXT
The Warhawks will conclude their 2018 season Saturday, when they play a doubleheader against the Wolves, beginning at 1 p.m.
